Looks to be the ATL for this version of the game. I'll probably never get it to the table but at this price I'll bite. The Camels haven't picked up on this price yet. There does seem to be a limit of 3, hopefully that's per person.

Currently rated 8.5 at BGG.

Note: While the language says Spanish, the game itself is language independent. You can get a copy of the rules in English here

Price history at BGO

The Castles of Burgundy is set in the Burgundy region of High Medieval France. Each player takes on the role of an aristocrat, originally controlling a small princedom. While playing, they aim to build settlements and powerful castles, practice trade along the river, exploit silver mines, and use the knowledge of travelers.

The game is about players taking settlement tiles from the game board and placing them into their princedom, which is represented by the player board. Every tile has a function that starts when the tile is placed in the princedom. The princedom itself consists of several regions, each of which demands its own type of settlement tile.

The game is played in five phases, each consisting of five rounds. Each phase begins with the game board stocked with settlement tiles and goods tiles. At the beginning of each round, all players roll their two dice, and the player who is currently first in turn order rolls a goods placement die. A goods tile is made available on the game board according to the roll of the goods die. During each round, players take their turns in the current turn order. During their turn, a player may perform any two of the four possible types of actions:

  1. Take a settlement tile from the numbered depot on the game board corresponding to one of their dice and place it in the staging area on their player board.
  2. Place a settlement tile from the staging area of their player board to a space on their player board with a number matching one of their dice in the corresponding region for the type of tile and adjacent to a previously placed settlement tile.
  3. Deliver goods with a number matching one of their dice.
  4. Take worker tokens that allow the player to adjust the roll of their dice.
In addition to these actions, a player may buy a settlement tile from the central depot on the game board and place it in the staging area on their player board. If an action triggers the awarding of victory points, those points are immediately recorded. Each settlement tile offers a benefit: additional actions, additional money, advancement on the turn order track, more goods tiles, die roll adjustment or victory points. Bonus victory points are awarded for filling a region with settlement tiles.

The game ends when the last player finishes their turn of the fifth round of the fifth phase. Victory points are awarded for unused money and workers and for undelivered goods. Bonus victory points from certain settlement tiles are awarded at the end of the game. The player with the most victory points wins.

The 2019 edition of The Castles of Burgundy includes eight expansions, seven of which were previously released as promotional items and one new to this release (Shields).
This edition has one fewer double-sided Monastery boards than what came in The Castles of Burgundy: 4th Expansion – Monastery Boards. It doesn't include The Castles of Burgundy: 1st Expansion – New Player Boards, The Castles of Burgundy: 3rd Expansion – German Board Game Championship Board 2013, or The Castles of Burgundy: 7th Expansion – German Board Game Championship Board 2016. However it includes one new player board (x4) that had never been released before (Board 2).

Edit: Back in stock and a tiny bit cheaper. A couple of us that purchased this last time got English instructions in their copy. YMMV.

Great game and fantastic price. There's a lot of game in there with all the expansions too.

Grabbed a copy, I've looked at this a few times, I'll add it to the pile of shame.

    Whats the ATL version mean?

    • ATL, just means the All Time Low (price).

  • +1

if money is not an issue, check out the link below, the Awaken Realms version is a lot better.

    https://gamefound.com/en/projects/awaken-realms/castles-of-b…

    • I got the Majestic pledge (Sundrop) because money is not an issue and it is definitely worth it if money is not an issue.

      • You happy with the sundrop? I got Nemesis all-in sundrop back in the day and it's nice but they tend to look a bit dirty. Maybe AW has improved the process since the first Nemesis KS.

I'm gonna grab CoB all-in in the reprint campaign, it's so overproduced but what the hell.

        • Yes the immersion is great, people love it once they can see they're building a 3d city, and if i had more time I'd definitely use more than just the starter mats but it's hard when I can only pull it out every few months.

I bought this deal for a mate for his birthday next month. Hope there's english, lol

    • I disagree that it's better, just different. It really slows everything down with setup and general fiddliness . I greatly prefer this to the premium version despite the undeniable visual appeal of the latter.

Been waiting for a sale on this one for quite a while, I think it being in Spanish is a bit of a dealbreaker for me though. I know it would still be playable but I'd like it to be a complete package as is without needed to goodle or translate anything. Oh well.

    • Language: ‎English, Italian, French, Portuguese, German, Spanish

      • and then further on
        Language ‎Spanish

        so who knows

        • It all looks Spanish in the pictures. I assume they sell all languages but this listing is for the Spanish version

          • +1

@Nolanb134: I own this edition of the game and it comes with multiple manuals, each in a different language. English is included. I assume this is the same.

            • @Jeffie: Hopefully! I did want to use the colour laser for once though.

              • @ozbs25: My copy was actually missing one of the duchy boards. No one could help me but Amazon refunded the $60 I paid and told me to keep it. I found the image of the board on BGG and for a couple of dollars printed it out at OW. You can barely tell the difference.

  • So only the manual is in Spanish? Otherwise it is no issue?

    • +3

From what I understand, everything in the game (aside from the manual) is language independent. It's either a number or some sort of picture/symbol that would be explained in the manual. There is a Language Dependence Poll on BGG and it has a score of 100% for "No necessary in-game text".

I'm going to print out the manual anyway. I bought a colour laser (OzBargain deal of course) and never use it.

  • thank you OP

  • Ah bugger, just spent my board game budget on the super rare board game Planted ($57.31)

    • Good components for the msrp (US$30).

  • great game, great price!

  • +1

If the price is not correct, please try to add it via the side panel. There is a delay of a few weeks though.

The default (Amazon AU) price is $84, which I consider unreasonable. $40 is a much more reasonable price for what is essentially printed pieces of cardboard, a few plastic dice and a slim rulebook. I'm not criticizing the game itself; I have played it once, liked it, and would recommend it to people interested in medium length, medium complexity games.

People, keep posting any board game bargains you find. I myself like long, complicated games, and games with miniatures, but I am in a minority.

  • This is a decent game, but the point scoring and its calculations and variables, this is better play digitally on BGA instead for me.

  • Thanks, purchased it to never open or play. I need some more friends.

    • There is a Fan Made Print-and-Play Chateauma for 2019 Anniversary Edition, basically a solo mode for the game. I'll probably have to refer to this to play. Will have to see how to print all this stuff to cardstock. Not sure if it's something I can do at home or if I'll have to go to Officeworks. I'll probably have to do this for a lot of games.

  • Wish I had friends who were into these kinds of things. You can buy this stuff, but you can't force a group of people to be into it.

    • i used to think that too. but found there are lots of people out there. just got to look in the right places.

      where are you located?

      • Adelaide. I'm sure there's groups and game bars and stuff. But I dunno, that sounds like an ordeal.

  • mine arrived. included English instructions.

    • Thanks! Mine arrived today too. I need to try to open and check that everything is there. I've got way too many games that are still in their shrink wrap. If anything is missing it could be hard to arrange to get replacements/refunds later on.

      • way too many games - seems to be a common situation, i bought a boot load of practically new games off a guy yesterday, he had 100s probably only played 20 of them. i suspect i will become just the same - need to stop.

warranty probably a challenge - not sure what claims from international amazon is like.

Was buying something else on Amazon today and it said this had come down in price in my cart. Now saying $39.18 and in stock.

Seems people got the english instructions so I think I will grab it…

    • Yeah, mine has English instructions in it.
