Cashrewards Declined Cashback

Couple of months ago I took advantage of a 105% cash back for nordVPN deal through Cashrewards and waited patiently for the cashback to appear in My Rewards. However, the cashback never confirmed after the estimated approval date, leading me to inquire about the situation. I was informed that the "sale did not track and the store has declined your cashback is that Cashrewards has not been attributed to your sale. This implies that another marketing channel received a commission on your purchase and we have not been paid for your purchase. Consequently, we do not have any funds from the store to pass on to you in the form of cashback."

I'm very annoyed about this situation, as I followed all the usual procedures for tracking the sale, Not sure what to do now.

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation with declined cashbacks or specifically with NordVPN?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Cashrewards Declined Cashback

Sky is blue, news at 5. Nothing new here. That is their business model!

It's sad to realize that dishonesty seems to be their business model.

And we didn’t see that coming with their IPO?

  • Seems they've gone down the toilet, it was good while it lasted.

As always, treat cash back programs as a bonus. If they work - awesome. If they don't track - meh, so be it.

Bullshit. It's advertising and blatant dishonesty.

True but there is Sweet FA you can do about it?

Exactly the reason we are here.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the T&C's detail it, however it is scammy as hell and the ACCC should be looking at it. It is fundamentally a great scheme, but left un-policed leaves much room for unbecoming business behaviour.

It's one thing when the shitty platform doesn't track, but even more so when it does and they just speel with "sorry, not sorry"…

I had an Adidas order with high percentage and allowed use of code for one day until midnight. I ordered lunchtime and it tracked fine and I got email confirmation of order minutes later. I had screenshots of all but still wouldn't pay up as they did invoice when sending goods after the cashback period.

How is that just? Imagine if McDonald's did this crap with monopoly…

How many times has it been said in threads like this: Don't factor cash back offers into purchase decisions for this exact reason!

If you saw a hawker on the street corner offering to pay you 5% AND give you a free netflix subscription, would you accept his offer?!?

If something seems too good to be true, then there is always a catch :/

If you saw a hawker on the street corner offering to pay you 5% AND give you a free netflix subscription, would you accept his offer?

      Yes !!!

    • Difference is this ain't a hawker but an advertising company albeit part of ANZ blaming the consumer repeatedly for not following processes in their platform and siding with the advertising clients thus enabling them to cheat and not outlay their potential advertising budget. The catch is that we have to register and supply personal information to be marketed to.

It is not a bonus, it is an ad spend that they pocket instead of spending.

    • I disagree. You will only subscribe to a 98% off VPN if you have 98% off. The same for other items. Cashback is business… If you are waiting for concert tickets to get cheaper so you can book the concert, you might only buy the tickets with the promised discount.

It doesn't matter if "it's too good to be true". Similarly, if you want a new fridge and TGG is offering 50% off today, you might buy today… If tomorrow they tell you that they can't offer you the discount and you have to pay the full price, that won't be acceptable as it's not what was advertised. Cashback providers are equally accountable. It's business and it's their responsibility to make sure their system and communication with stores and buyers is working.

  • Just checked mine for NordVPN through CR - ordered 12/11, approved 11/1. That was for a ~95% cashback from memory.

    • My NordVPN was purchased 15/1/2023 and approved 16/3/2023. $115.51 cashback for a $123.96 2-year subscription.

The number 1 rule of cash backs is treat the cash back as a bonus and not to be relied upon.

Buy the item / service on its own merits only not because of cash back.

sale did not track and the store has declined your cashback is that Cashrewards has not been attributed to your sale

How is that possible when CR received a notification of the transaction? It clearly did track and tracked with Cashrewards otherwise some other affiliate partner would have received the notification and not CR.

    • How is that possible when CR received a notification of the transaction?

Where'd you source that info from?

From OP's post where they say "the cashback never confirmed after the estimated approval date". So it must have tracked to show an estimated approval date.

Although, if CR had to manually add it in upon OP's request, then it is on OP. They should've cancelled the subscription with NordVPN under their 30-day refund policy.

        • Exactly, if it didn't track - that's on you OP!

I miss tightarse RIP goodnight sweet prince

  • @Rajgowda Disappointing to hear.
I'm a bit confused as to whether the NordVPN purchase was tracked in your history, then cashback was declined.
Or do you mean it wasn't even tracked at all?
I bought a similar NordVPN deal yesterday which has tracked and hope to receive the cashback

    • Upon my initial purchase of NordVPN, it wasn't tracked even after a week had passed. Hence, I reached out to their customer service. One of their representatives manually added it. However, when the due date expired, it still hadn't been approved. I once again reached out to them, only to be informed that it hadn't been tracked, hence they cannot provide any cashback.

      • @Rajgowda Thanks for the info. It is a big sum of money to miss out on.

As there isn't a rep here, it may be worth reaching out to Gilbert (ask for him) at CR's email: [email protected]

I had an enquiry about my NordVPN purchase and received a reply in less than an hour. Hope he can help and let me know how you go.

        Some info about support here:
        https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/cashrewards

  • sadly cashrewards support is probably not the best now.

I always have issues even reporting a missing cashback report, (it never works on website) always have to email them, (before used to be able to just explain our champion, and he would have sorted so much out).

Clearly shows CR is not really that good without him on public board. But ofc their shareholders and owners wont understand it.

Now there are not that many good deals either for long time from them.

  • I was looking at a Dell monitor a little while back and thought I saw that they had a special with 10% cashback on everything where usually monitors are significantly reduced or outright excluded. In any case, it didn't track (although it knew I went to the site) and when I followed up I was told, nope monitors = 0%.

I'm 90% confident that wasn't the case but as far as I can tell there is no way to see what deals were historically in place unless you keep your own records at the time. For reference, today (8 March 2024) there is a 1.5% cashback on monitors. Next time I will take screenshots of everything to be sure to be sure.

Maybe I was wrong, maybe I just don't care enough to fight. As has been said, I consider it a bonus on something I would have otherwise bought anyway. I do understand if it was an informed decision to buy from one retailer over another at a higher list price because of the cashback.

    • I just did 10% on a 10k server. It tracked and I did a screen recording. It's showing up ok.

      Let's see if they'll pay out $1074…

      • They paid out a $1273 cashback on a $10k TGG purchase in Dec 2022 for me.

Just chiming in late to the party. Yes, I also have this experience with Cashrewards. It's frustrating. As suggested above I should not have made purchases bared on rewards value. Unfortunately this is usually the deciding factor as you can likely find the item a little cheaper elsewhere without the cashback. I had some good bargains, but not worth the frustration when it doesn't work, as following the correct process is not always enough.

  • They reduced my cashback to 0 for some reasons. Even though it has been tracked and received confirmation email.

  • There was a 10% bonus offer during Black Friday for Big W. My cashback got declined a few days ago for no reason, support were no help when asking why. No codes were used, all rules were followed and they should have paid out about $9.

There was also another small eBay one that was declined for no reason. I never questioned it as it was small but it was weird as another small eBay purchase the same day tracked and paid out.

I bought 2 movie world 12 month passes in Jan when there was a huge cashback offer from the supplier and, surprise surprise, neither of them even tracked.

Funny how all my small ones track ok.

I have now stopped using them and when i can withdraw my final $16 they can get stuffed.
