Also $120 Delivered at Robin Kitchen
    Both sites look awfully similar..

I feel like they are probably the parent company just under different brands.

  • +8

Because of the low carbon content, 420J2 is not a high-performance steel. Knives from this steel don’t hold an edge well and may exhibit scratches due to the low wear resistance. However, the steel may appeal to chefs who value toughness and corrosion resistance.

If you're happy to waste $120 on junk, this is a great way to do it

Friends dont let friends buy baccarat

  • here we go again :)

I have owned these for some years after buying a similar deal. they stain very easily and get dull very quickly. Would not recommend.

    • +4

Downvoting the deal is a good idea, then, to let people know what a crap "deal" it is

  • +3

Just buy a Victorinox Fibrox Chef's knife for far less. No point spending this much money on a bundle of crap knifes.

    • +2

they're japanese steel tho. almost as good as hattori hanzo

    • +1

Agreed, love victorinox, they stay sharp for a very long time.

House has a decent set for $139.99 + shipping (down from $249) - much better value than this Baccarat option:

    • Chef's knives aren't much good when you need a paring knife.

      • +1

True, but most people don't even use a paring knife. If you do, then just buy one. Or buy a decent set of knifes

      • These knives are no good no martter what you need, so what's your point?

  • Is it me or Baccarat always show insane rrp but you can also find them at 90% off.
It just doesn't inspire confidence in the brand!

    • +2

It's their business model - so designed so that you don't feel as though you're buying cheap crap, although you're actually buying super-cheap crap.

    • +1

Baccarat and Furi knives are Australian brands, slapping Japanese words on the set, add a "Japanese Steel", and omitting the fact they're Made in China (not that there's anything wrong with it, just that the quality isn't here for these knives)

House also does the persian rug shop tactic, permanently a closing down or stocktake sale

  • House has been closing down for years…. Yet they are still here….

Makes you wonder what they are selling or the quality of the wares they are selling….

    • I think they've ditched the closing down line and gone with stocktake sale.
Not sure how they're allowed to boast RRPs when they are never at the RRPs.

      • +2

Easy, stick them in a warehouse somewhere and list it on the website at the insane RRP. If someone buys it, happy days.

Let it sit there for a few months and then put on sale at 90% off.

In the meantime, think of another Japanese sounding name for the next lot.
