Prepaid Card for Kids - Reloadable

Is there any prepaid card (master/visa) for youth (12-13 years) which is reloadable and can be used online?

Thanks

Can’t you just use something like CBA’s youth account that’s linked to a parent’s account?

I use this for my kids and just put money on their card as needed

https://www.spriggy.com.au/ is designed specifically for kids

    • Like it is interesting but I can't get over the fees, $60 a year and every time your kid loses their card its gonna be $10 thanks. Even the Australia post Prepaid mastercard gives you free replacements when you lose a card. But some people will like the convenience of not having to setup a more manual solution and work out all the kinks.

Australia post prepaid mastercard isn't terrible for this. You can reload it and all that jazz in the app for free. it has a $8 setup fee and a $2 yearly fee but that would be it in terms of fees for what you want to use it for as long as the kids don't want to withdraw from atm's. Less features than spriggy but also less fees by an order of magnitude.

You could also just open up a bank account in your name that you don't use and give to the kids with a bit of cash in it. So you have a full features of a bank. Up bank, ANZ plus or something you aren't already currently using.

Up has a virtual card I use and can easily wipe and replace or lock if I want for online purchases. If they want to buy roblox from dodgy sites they can use that, I use it when merchants don't let me use my revolut disposable card. but you also get a plastic card which they can use at brick and mortar stores.

For that age demographic OP you should be able to get them a full debit card/bank account take a look at Macquarie or Great Southern Bank. I did a similar post here a month ago for some of the other products you might see mentioned here.

  • Thank you for the suggestion guys! He has an account in Westpac but it is efpos only, no online transactions allowed until 14 which is annoying.

Thought I might be able to get a reloadable card but I will probably have to look in to other banks as suggested here.

    Cheers

Yeah, a lot of those reloadable products are just totally crap and should be avoided.
