  No sign of these as yet, except in Italy at €199 - a sizeable step up on the G300 prices.

  Note, there are quite a few other phones that are getting some attention in the bargain space (eg ZTE) and the earthshaking arrival of the Nexus 4 at $349 is likely to have quite a bit of fallout as premium prices have to fall, medium prices likewise get pushed down, and the budget market gets lots of phones previously targeted at the medium segment, priced to gain at least some market share.

  At present it looks like the carriers are trying to stick their fingers in their ears and shout 'la, la, la' with either avoiding carrying the phone, or pricing it at very silly levels. It will therefore take time to shake out (they are trying to push the bloodbath after christmas), and thus if you can wait, it would be best to do so.

  Or just buy the Nexus 4…

  So looking at the Nexus 4, there are a few different models and they vary a bit in price. I have found an I9250,
  an I9020 and an I9023. They all run android 4.0. Price and model number vary, but specs "seem" to be the same. Or maybe Im not looking properly?

    Very nice, premium specs, provided you aren't looking for LTE.

    Otherwise wait a while and see what happens to the budget prices. Any mid range phone that was going to launch into the A$300-400 range is going to need to be cheaper, which in turn will push down the budget prices as well.
