Camera and Screen Protectors - Advisable?

Hi everyone, for the first time ever, I bought a non-budget phone. It's a Pixel 8 Pro (for better or worse).

I'm cautious about scratching or cracking the camera and screen. I know that protective phone cases are very common, but do people here tend to use camera and screen protectors?

I tried searching this forum for info but nothing relevant seemed to come up. I'd be grateful for any advice - thanks in advance!

  • honestly, do not worry about it.
screen protectors are WAY thinner than the actual glass, they'll always break first, regardless if your screen was gonna break or not.
Screen protector will protect against microscratches though, like keys & phone in one pocket.
    camera protector? oh cmon. no.

On my recently purchased phone I have chosen to run a screen protector just to avoid scratches from general use, keys in pocket, etc. My two previous phones I never bothered, and ended up with some pretty significant scratching. I doubt the screen protectors actually protect your screen from breaking however - the quality of glass these days is very good.

I am running a camera protector just because they were cheap and the phones are expensive, but who knows if they are actually needed.

  • For a moment I thought you were referring to a mirror-less or DSLR camera…

Plastic screen protector only. The tempered glass ones that somehow became popular often increase the chances of a crack

    • What do you mean? How does putting a tempered glass screen protector increase the chances of the screen cracking?

      • Not sure why, it's just how it works

        • That's the big question - how can putting a glass screen protector on a screen increase the chances of the screen cracking? Is it confirmation bias?

  • Yes screen protector a must for me as previous posters have already mentioned. It came with camera lense protectors, so I put it on just because.

    Phone is S23 Ultra.

  • I always put on a tempered glass screen protector to protect against scratches. I tried going without one for one of my phones and of course got a deep scratch on the screen within a few days.

I don't put one on the camera as I want maximum quality. I just make sure I don't put the phone down on rough surfaces that might scratch it.

  • My phone is in a folio case which has the advantage of having card slots as well. Because the lens is still exposed I put my phone in an old soft sunglasses drawstring bag. My iPad has a similar Folio cover and I didn’t bother putting on a screen protector on this either. Three years and it is still fine.
