Velocity Points for Flying - When Do Receive Them?

Can someone clarify if Velocity points are issued when the flight is booked and paid for, or only after the actual travel?

I ask because I was hoping the initial trip to my destinantion may have given me enough status points to jump a status level, giving me better bang for buck on the return leg

Obviously this isnt going to work if they only issue the points after the actual travel

Cant seem to find any reference to this anywhere

Thanks!

From the first google search result

Claim missing Points and Status Credits
It can take up to 14 days after your flight for your Points to be added to your Account.

I usually get them within 1-2hours of landing.

  • For me:
VA flights usually within 2 business days
SIA/UA flights usually within 3 business days

After travel completion, in my experience within 1 day (backdated to travel date).

'Velocity points' and 'status credits' are two quite separate things which it appears you might be confusing given the thread title and content.

Anyway they both post at the same time, in my experience with VA a day or two after completing all travel on that itinerary (ie. if you have return flights booked, after the last flight).

It should upgrade your status from when you land. On the VA app it should show your new card if you jump a status level. It might on occasion take 24 business hours.

  • Thanks, novice with this points business, clear on how it works now though

  • Landed about 3 hours ago and already have the points now
