Replacement Brake Pads for Kia Carnival That Don't Squeak

Hi guys, every time when I get my brake pads replaced, I ask them to use a brand which doesn't make a squeaking sound. However, to the date, they all failed.

I was wondering if any brand out there which doesn't make a squeaking sound? My car is 2019 Kia Carnival.

  • Your discs might need machining…

I usually get new discs in case of machining needed.

Do they use copper grease on the install?

Also, how often are you needing new pads?

    • +6

Right? I was thinking, damn… How many times can someone of replaced their brake pads in 5 years haha.

Maybe one of those drivers that breaks brakes at every opportunity. Slight uphill right bend in 100kmh regional zone - "ahhh shit I better brake or we're all going to die". I see it all the time. FFS

@wrx5: I do 50k kms a year, my car has 280k kms on it and I'm on the original brake pads and clutch. Pretty sure I know how to drive properly and I observe plenty that don't know how every single day.

            • @Muzeeb: Brake pads for 280k??? you must be using something special. I know you said original but do you know which brand they are? I haven't passed 120k so far.

              • @wrx5: Factory issued and don't need to remove them to inspect depth - so not aware of brand.

How many pairs of shoes have you gone through???

          • @wrx5:

talking to someone who does 60000 - 80000km a year. I bet wouldn't have enough driving experience as much as me

            I usually do 200,000+ a year

Edit: In something that is literally quite possibly 100x heavier than you.

Also when you drive to earn bread you think way more things than how to use brake pad more efficiently.

I think about driving efficiently and safely.
Eg: not riding the brakes lol.

Ease off that pedal and drive efficiently.
It will save you money in the long run.

@wrx5: It's easy to get 100,000 km+ out of a set of pads using fuel saving driving habits.

FFS! Don’t forget that bend also has camber in it too!

I’ve been in more cars with drivers who scare the sh.t out of me because they are driving over their limit. Not speeding but just driving over their personal skill level.

Mid corner braking because they’ve gone too fast and are understeering? Check.

But a competent driver could use throttle control? No. Mid corner braking better.

Hey there’s a crest, you don’t dab the brakes to weight shift to the front axle, you Go over the crest and then brake!

You know how you stick to the speed limit? Yes, you feather the throttle according to the terrain of the road to get yourself a more or less constant speed smoothly. Wrong! You stab the accelerator to get to the speed limit, then you take your foot off and slow down. Once you’re under the speed limit by maybe 5km/h, you stab the throttle again.

          • @Gunnar: Also get speed up to 101kph on the freeway and jump on brakes until you're under 100 again, even though there is absolutely nothing on the road in front of you….

    • Not sure if they use any grease or not.

I am using my cars for Uber driving so usage is high. Probably I need to change pads once or twice a year.

    Put some lube on

This, they may be skipping the copper grease.

My God, your car is 5 years old, how many sets of brake pads have you had!?

As I said above, driving for Uber so make a lot of KMs per year.

      • +3

ok, things not listed in your post…. Uber will do it, but still. Ease off the throttle and try coasting a bit more ;)

It's nothing to do with your brake pads you need a new mechanic who doesnt take short (profanity).

First you clean all the brake parts mating surfaces real well. Get rid of dusts, rust and old grease. This will remove 99% of weird brake feel/pulsation.

Next you lube all the pad and disc mating surface with high temp brake lube. Don't use normal grease it will burn off due to heat. Permatex, LiquiMoly or Wurth your choice. This will get rid of the noise!
Do NOT lube the braking surfaces!! Seek help if you are unsure. If it's still squealing like a pig, you might want to inspect your brake pads. Most fresh pads has angle cut chamfer on the two sides, they reduces vibration and noise. You can try angry grind making more chamfer but please wear a mask. Or just get some new pads they are not expensive.

Lube the exposed sliding parts as well. Up to you, some people leave it dry as it will attract dust and grime over time. I DIY service my cars regularly so I don't mind a bit of grease.

Finally, finish the wheel fasteners with a torque wrench with the correct numbers this will ensure your disc not wrap.

I wish you a successful brake job.

    • Agreed, in short. It is more quality of experienced workmanship, than just Pads.

  • Use dba pads n rotors not bendix
