AGL Peak Energy Rewards is a program which aims to reduce electricity demand during peak times and improve grid stability. From 1 December each year, participating customers will be notified by AGL when the electricity grid is experiencing high demand.

As of December 2021, the program will be changing from a summer initiative to an all-year-round proposition. This means events can take place throughout the year maximising our ability to reduce demand during peak times.

Eligible participants will be invited to voluntarily reduce their energy usage to decrease demand on the electricity grid, and in return, will be rewarded with credits towards their electricity bill. 

For peak events, you can earn up to $10 in bill credits for every 2-3 hour event and $5 in bill credits for every 1 hour event*, when you reach your energy reduction targets.

  AGL will send invitation into your nominated mobile number
  and you will need to reply 'Yes' if you want to participate
  latest one were on Tuesday Mar 12th between 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  earn credit $5 for using 0.45kWh during the mentioned time

  NOTE:
  your meter MUST be digital which AGL can check the usage at anytime. Old meters can not participate on the event
  you can request to changed your meter. It was free for me

      very strange..
      how did they check your usage on the day and on that specific time?
      if your meter is not digital and not online (has antena)
      I have not heard old syle meter can be attached to antena and online
      But I can be wrong

        yeah I noticed y neighbour has that white dongle thingie they said its digital from agl mine also agl and doesn't have it. I will ask agl to confirm

  Before you get too excited note the following

  AGL uses a formula based on your typical usage history to forecast how much energy you would normally have used during peak events. After this number is normalised for variables such as weather, time and day, AGL then subtracts your actual usage to determine how much energy you saved.

  So its not just reducing power, its reducing it based on history, so if you dont use much normally at the peak event, you wont get much of an offer or one at all.

  How about you pay me a decent return on my solar tariff or better still reduce the supply charge per quarter then I'll think of helping you guys out
