Damnnnn! I loved the large coffees for 2500 points 😭

    • Damn the value is gone now

  • +9

Marge: "I'll have a large coffee for 2500."
Maccas attendant: " beer medium it is

    I'm McDisappointed…

  • +10

Boo-urns! No more large iced latte

  • +6

Really? that's a damned shame, it's the only reason I can ever be bothered to use the app, to accrue 2500 points for large coffees! I suppose its better than reducing their size and keeping the name like Mcdonalds have done with the medium-mac!

Wow, it's still there, only as a 5000 point reward! 100% 'price' increase, well played Mcdonalds!

  • +10

That was literally the only reason I was still going there…

Prime Minister says he doesnt give a shit, as he has 4 coffee machines in his plane… also has no idea that humans have to pay for things.

          has to be photochop…

Not sure, Kate Middleton took the photo…

  • T.I.L. people actually go to Maccas for coffee.

    • +2

      Only if it's free…

      • I've got a feeling that you'd still be overpaying.

idk the new big breakfast deal has been a hit with the boys on the site i visited this week

      2 McMuffins, 2 Hash Browns and a Medium hot McCafé coffee@ $12.95

    • +3

Its coffee is actually really good. It’s Arabica beans which doesn’t give those susceptible, heartburn, and it tastes nice and strong, I just spent 3 weeks in USA and, despite trying multiple places every day, never had a good flat white/latte until I got home.

I have too much time on my hands.

This was the old points to dollar value chart that I had saved from another ozbargainer, don't remember which thread it was from.

Here's the new chart for the new rewards menu that I made.

    • +2

The biggest issue for me is perceived value.

$3.95 for a cup of ice with some coke on it or $6.35 for some shit coffee? Yeah nah
$7.80 when I need to smash me two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, all on a sesame seed bun? That's a pricing I'm sometimes willing to pay.

    • its a bloody outrage it is

      • +1

        crying shaking throwing up

    • This is important historical information, should do a comparison table/chart that shows how the rewards program get's worse over the years. Was useful to resolve a debate about the best things to spend points on.

    • +2

      Visualised versions: before and after

  • A shame, but it is still the best use of points $ wise to spend on medium sized fancy drinks like ice chocolates, frappes and the like.

  • Bloody hell! The medium coffee is still the best value reward so I'll just have to suck up less free coffee.

    • no we must boycott until they give us back the large

  • Seniors get a small one free, they sometimes give large. So do Hungry Jacks. One Hungry Jacks employee snapped at me the other day in drive through, guess he didnt like it

    • +2

all i need to do is wait another..checks notes

      Better burgers, worse beverages imo.
Hungry jacks is arguably a much worse coffee.

I find there is some semblance of value and quality depending on the 15yo “barista” at McDs mood on the day haha.

    first the 711 $1 coffee became $2
    now this

    when will the madness stop

    • +1

      Amen.

Let's not forget Shell - it was like 80c for a small coffee (now $2). A half decent brew when using the 'strong' setting.

      • +1

at 711 i still get 3-4 short black shots and then top with hot water and a bit of sugar. makes it a bit more reasonable than the standard cafe offering of 1 shot.

        • +1

Ahh, true. I've stopped doing that when the stores are really quiet.. I can feel the operator's disapproving stare penetrate my soul (thankfully just my soul).

          • +1

@Last Seen: Maybe this article needs to be updated since 711 au got bought out by 711 Japan

but head office said cups are charged per cup not by quantity

(You right tho I’m not sure if the guy at my local is the franchisee or just angry dude but I can feel him angry staring me - not that he’s ever said anything specifically about it) - to be fair I don’t use chopper and I usually am buying $100 of diesel.

        • +2

Good luck doing that without the staff member getting angry.
I pressed the button twice on the machine at a store once and when I went to the counter they made me pay an extra $1 (pre-price hike)!
I complained to 7-Eleven afterwards citing a news article saying they are meant to charge by cup and not by how many times you press the machines buttons.
7-Eleven got back to me and said the article is incorrect (despite having a quote from 7-Eleven in it) and they do charge by button presses.
They were nice enough though to give me 3 free regular coffees loaded onto the app for my hassles so I ended up on top!

          Hi melbourne guy,

Thank you for contacting 7-Eleven Customer Service.

The article is not a reliable source of information and that this is not a 7-Eleven policy. We have costs associated with each shot of coffee and therefore do not offer multiple shots for free.

As a gesture of goodwill we would like to offer 3 x coffee vouchers to either be added to your my 7-Eleven account or posted to your best postal address.
          Kind regards,
          Customer Service

Damn still been doing that this week actually - did it this morning with my weekly diesel fill up. 3 shots, hot water and a hint of sugar.
            Will keep it in mind.

          • @melbourne guy:

So how does that work with BYO cup?

So if I bring a jumbo cup but only put a small coffee in it, I should be charged jumbo rates?

            • @JimmyF: I'm not sure as I don't use the reusable ones at 7-Eleven, but according to the t&c's the maximum cup size is 473ml (16oz) and it's up to the staff member as to what price should be charged. What I experienced maybe in the minority of cases and I reckon the majority of 7-eleven staff don't care how many times you push the button.

I'm not sure as I don't use the reusable

You missed the point, but lets carry on.

it's up to the staff member as to what price should be charged.

They generally charge you either the cup size you selected from them or if you BYO the size you said you got.

I reckon the majority of 7-eleven staff don't care how many times you push the button.

Correct, only the 'owners' really care.

I had a thermos cup I use, it takes the middle size. I always said it was a small :)

Every once and a while, the staff would question it, and I'm like yeah. They are like meh, push the $1 button at the time!

It was before the BYO cup discount, that was my way of a discount for saving them a cup ;)

No longer do it, ahhh the good old days.

  • Our local Metro stations has coffees at $1 still.

  • +1

Eh it's just a bit of extra milk and water, never been worth it anyway without paying for an extra shot.

McCafe Medium remains the best value use of Macca's points. $5 value for $25 spend. As opposed to $6 value for $50 spend or even $10 value for $100 spend like the new 10,000 points redemption options.

Honestly, I rarely buy McCafe coffees with cash anymore. Not typically worth it either.

  • In Europe, there was no mclarge anything. Medium was their large. Prices were definitely not small.

  • Wow. I just saw this post. Even less value from the 15000+ points I have accrued.
    Such an idiot 🤦

    • Don't feel too bad. I'm sitting on 30K points and can't even be bothered sending them some McFeedback

  • if you're getting coffee from mcdonalds you have lost all joy in your life

    • +2

That's why we are buying coffee from McDonald's, to push the sad away for a few minutes.

Look at the sad man sitting in the corner booth, alone, on their phone, drinking coffee. That man is me and I feel a little better.

I'm going to miss the free large iced lattes. With two and three dollar coffee deals I would build them up every few weeks (over four accounts).

I'll look around for a new coffee haunt before all my bonus points are used.

  • +1

    Too expensive now.

I'll take my business to 7 eleven who don't charge extra for almond milk. ($2.50 for a large if you use the 7/11 app and reusable mug).

Wont risk having my order (profanity) up once a quarter - or the occasional shit coffee.

Shame I enjoyed the coffee (when good barista) and often bought extra menu items to go with the coffee early in the morning.

    (profanity) you ronald mcdonald.

They think they can take away our precious large coffees? They think they can silence our caffeine-fueled battle cries with this act of treachery? I say NO! It's a travesty, a slap in the face to every hardworking coffee lover on OzBargain who has diligently amassed those reward points!

They want to replace the glorious surge of a large coffee with the pathetic dribble of a medium? This is what defeat tastes like, my fellow bargain hunters!

But hear me now - we are not a people to be trifled with! We are the legion who braves confusing discounts, the hunters of freebies, the masters of maximising value. Think of all the times a deal alert has saved your wallet from despair. Are we to let this insult go unanswered?

I say we fight! Let every McDonald's tremble at our collective boycott! Let our empty reward wallets be their grim reminder that even the most caffeine-addicted among us have standards! Sure, their coffee might be the only thing keeping us moving on some mornings, but we won't be taken for fools.

Who's with me?! Shall we let McDonald's dictate these terms, or shall we demand our rightful large coffees with the fury of a thousand early birds deprived of their fuel?!

  • +1

Yeah saw that the other day. I'm still depressed.
