Pool Chlorinator Question Davey or Astral?

Hi,

We have a small (3m x 6m) saltwater swimming pool (using it more or less every day).

Our current salt water chlorinator: AstralPool Quilibrium Salt Chlorinator (probably 10 years old).
The pump and filter is also Astral.

The chlorinator cells were replaced 3-4 years ago and still look good.

The PCB Board is starting to fail.

The clock is too slow, I have to reset it otherwise the pump would probably start in the middle of the night.

Not a big thing at this stage. Another thing is that the touch buttons will not respond sometimes.

I would like to be prepared when it decides to stop working 100%.

Can I go with a different brand Salt Chlorinator?

If yes, can someone that has a salt chlorinator with bluetooth/wifi (like to use an app to control settings etc) recommend why I should or should not buy that particular model?

Yes, I have searched the net but I find that most of the reviews are very often too subjective. Thanks

  • Our Astral (Hurlcon) chlorinator was playing up doing weird stuff. It was out of warranty so I decided to investigate inside.

As part of the checking for faulty shit process with a multimeter I discovered if I removed the backup battery (and not replace it) that the unit worked fine. It has continued to do so flawlessly for the last 3 years. I have to reset the device after a mains power failure but that is once in a blue moon.

    YMMV.

    • That's interesting! (The backup battery isn't expensive though, I wonder if replacing it would mean you don't need to reset it if mains go out.)

      • I put a fresh battery in and it continued to play up. Battery removed and it was fine. Bloody odd I know.

        • I feel like 200 years old. Where does the backup battery go?

          • @vegemite2008: You might have a different model to be but you have to open up the case and it will get obvious.
