Sydney Royal Easter Show - Worth Going?

Hey all, just curious to get others opinions if you will be going this year or not and whether you think it's worth attending.

I went the year it was in full swing post covid with my partner and it was an absolute disaster on the Friday we went, lines from the station to the entrance, all the internal spaces were basically centrifugal machines where you got carried with the crowd unless you latched onto a stall you were interested in - essentially it was just so unenjoyable we spent maybe an hour in there before dipping, getting show bags and buggering off.

I still figured on a quieter day it would be a nice day outing to surprise my partner with.. so firstly - do you guys still go? is it worth going anymore and what days do you recommend are best? I know if you leave it to the last minute all the shows are done and half the stalls are packed up, but if you go on the peak days its just way too busy. Is there a good in between? Would love to see a show or two, but doesn't matter what, I just don't want half the stalls packed up when we do go.

Also yeah just general hints tips and discussion around the easter show, curious to hear everyones thoughts on it. Most of my friends have written it off saying its not worth it anymore.

So you are more willing to listen to strangers' opinion more than most of your friends? If yes, i'd say you need to go. It's worth it.

I am willing to listen to both my friends and strangers opinions, hence me asking OZB also. I would like to discuss the topic further and get other peoples opinions on the show, when my friends answer is primarily "nah not worth it" then it sorta cuts the discussion short. I hope that is all above board for you :)

Then maybe don't go, it's not worth it.

  • Worth going?

Nope. I've written it off. I's not worth it anymore.

jv I am asking for opinions from strangers, stop being silly

But you'd fly in from Vic in the past?

  • more people attended Ramadan Nights in Lakemba then the Easter show

The nightly food market, which attracted more crowds than The Royal Easter Show last year, coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a time of prayer, self-discipline, reflection and charity.

      which attracted more crowds

Another increase in interest rate is confirmed.

I have been to Ramadan nights, its a wonderful alternative and I used to go every year in the early days, now I avoid it for the same reason I am asking the question about the easter show - it gets so damn busy on the popular nights and I cannot do the trek on a work night. Also I would argue not quite same-same, but both equally worth checking out.

      • Go before sunset or shortly after. Muslims will flock to the night markets 90 minutes after sunset.

Probably because there's no hefty entry fee unlike the Easter Show.

    • yum, these are proper good (if you are a foodie and not a racist bogan)

  • How much are "show bags" these days? 50? $600 day for normal family? More if you have rides @10 ea?

It lost its way 30+ years ago - bringing the country to the city and 'sample bags'…. not a yearly money maker with bags full of useless crap.

    YMMV

    • $500? jeeze one would hope not. I just get a Bertie Beetle bag or two which is like $10-20. I also tend to stick to the pavilions where the fresh produce and stalls are - plenty of taste testers and lots of ideas for dinners and such, that and a show here and there, that's about it.

"stop having fun everyone, get away from those dodgem cars and fairy floss vendors, this should be more like pre-Internet times" is a bit of a weird take

Yeah must be nice to have a lot of money to blow at places like that. Compared to going broke and looking at all the cool stuff you can't do.

big bogan day out these days

My partner loves going, but it depends what you're going FOR. She loves the animal shows/feeding and loves looking at all the chickens and birds. If you have something you specifically enjoy, the mediocre over expensive food, the animals, the showbags, etc, just go. Nostalgia is certainly a strong driving factor for some.

    • Take a trip to Oakvale Farm.
Might be cheaper, and a better experience.

      • I think the petrol to get past Newcastle and back from Sydney would definitely not be cheaper..

If you have money and drugs/booze then I'm sure it would be a great time. I love all the colourful lights and the fun atmosphere of people having fun, the smell of junk food, the prospect of bringing more junk food home with you through show bags.

  • My wife likes to go to Easter show only for their show bags and food, now this is not worthied.

I don’t mind, my kids love it and we’r rocking again.

Same. It's a fun day out for the kids.
