    That's specious reasoning…

Truckie mate of mine thinks these (animal repeller) are horseshit, I'm not a truckie so don't have an opinion either way.

  • I've had these on my car for about 10 years now…

Edit* and agree with the above, 100% keep them there for laughs.

    SCA Animal Repeller

I do my fair share of regional night driving and I think these are bad news. Most kangaroos that I see are grazing by the roadside (more green grass due roadside drainage) are generally quite happy with you driving past. Most will just look up, watch you drive by, then resume their luscious greens.

With these ultrasonic whistlers the kangaroos freak out thinking there is a threat approaching. Their flight response sees them escaping the threat in a random and unpredictable pattern, generally across the road. Next second - bang.

LPT - you are better off hitting a kangaroo than swerving into a 100yo tree. The tree always wins.

Great deal on the tyre repair kit. Will pass on the air compressor; seems plagues with negative reviews.

    • The tyre repair kit are great and work well, only issue is the file can wear out quite quickly

My grandma buys these for all her grandchildren anytime we ever get a new car because they scare away kangaroos - her reason is she's never seen one while driving so they must work

She lives in the Melbourne CBD, right?

      • +1

        Correct 😂

    • Does she drive a gopher?

Nice, I got the heavy duty tarp for $15 from $60

I dont see how these could work

    • You can tell when a car has them. They have a weird whistling sound.

      • +1

I thought the sound it produces is outside the human hearing range.

      • Yeah but the whistling sound wouldnt be far enough ahead of the car to actively warn kangaroos, a car's engine or horn would be far more effective.

That plastic compressor ain't worth more than ten bucks

    • +8

      that's why it's $9.99 😂

      • So did he buy it then?

      • Yeah but it's listed at RRP 32.95. It's not a bargain at 10 bucks. Kmart used to sell then for around that when they stocked them

The roo repeller things dont work. The theory of them in action is wind passes through and makes a high pitched whistle, the problem with that theory is it requires forward motion to enable the noise, that makes it near impossible for the sound to travel much beyond the nose of the vehicle, Ill try and find it later today if I can but someone did a study on it and worked out that oncoming roos cannot even hear the noise until the truck had passed.

    • This was my thought process as well.
