        Scandinavian!

        • You are so lucky starting now all the seasons are great

Excellent series. There have been a few spin-off series with a similar premise of cross border collaboration. We've just finished watching Pagan Peak (Germany/Austria) which is one of them. There was also "The Tunnel" (UK/France).

      • Yep I'd heard of The Tunnel, which is on my list next. Hadn't heard of Pagan Peak, but will add it to the list! Danke!

  • 'Her' is excellent. Highly recommend watching with headphones

  • Yes love ABC iView not just some good movies and TV series but also some other shows and documentaries, however, now is Tiktok era. Enjoy while it lasts lol

    • -1

      now is Tiktok era.

yes short form content. some might say "who is watching that" but the answer is everyone is including grown adults.

I have a boomer in my family and they "tried" youtube shorts and now that's all they friggin watch they don't watch the longer "old format" videos anymore. same with someone else in the US, their grandfather only watches "short form facebook propaganda" and they are worried because they start yelling at the videos as they watch them.

  • +1

They all seem to be recycled from SBS

    • +2

True. Although ABC does have no ads and better picture quality.

      • 1080 vs 720?

        • No 1280x720

          • +1

@dman1: Not entirely correct. A lot of the smart devices only see the 720p stream but ABC does have a hidden 1080p one for most programs if you know how to find it with certain programs

            • @wastedhate: wow thank you !
Had no idea that this was even possible … haven't yet followed through with any installs etc but have found links online for later on

      • -2

ABC has both ad's and lesser quality video.

  • +3

Worth adding Pan's Labyrinth as well.

It would be the highest rated on the list :)

    • It sure is. I've just added. Thanks for pointing out.

    • +1

Pan’s Labyrinth is a must watch.
Fantastic fantasy, drama with a twist. Up there with one of my favourite European flicks. “No man’s land” “Underground” and. “Girl with a dragon tattoo” being my favourites.

      ….
Plus a few others. Euro films are awesome

  • So much better than netflivks and YouTube.

  • I mean, this is great and all. But then there is Stremio..

    @Harshmellow

You can pull the expiry dates for the others from the api if you wish.

For the ones unfilled in the table for example,

    Brooklyn - 2025-11-30 07:00:00
    Carol - 2025-10-31 07:00:00

Although it's possible that the far out ones are in fact just placeholders.

It's worth it just for Brooklyn, Her, The Imitation Game, and Pan's Labyrinth. Great movies.

obviously you can never please some people.
    taxpayers' funds conversation is comical.
there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more important issues to rant about taxes rather than a few free movies.

    • +1

Of course, it’s not really so much about the taxpayer funding, it’s all about the (ideological) vibe.

The ABC has been a punching bag for many right-wingers at least for the past 20-30 years. No matter what it does, they’ll whinge about it and talk about shutting it down or privatising it (ideally to their favourite right-leaning, outrage-confecting media empire so it can take an even greater stranglehold in the already concentrated local market).

OTOH, many left-wingers have been whingeing about perceived right-wing bias by certain current affairs shows/hosts over the past decade, because they regard them and the ABC now as too conservative and not left-wing enough to just promote their hobbyhorse issues (e.g. climate change) and criticise policies they disagree with (e.g. AUKUS).

So if the ABC doesn’t reflect these people’s own personal predilections and foibles exactly, then there’s something wrong with it. The ABC is a great national institution imho and making available a modest range of quality (non-niche, arthouse) movies to Australians for entertainment in these tougher economic times, some of whom may not be able to afford streaming services, is fulfilling its charter.

      • -2

"it’s all about the (ideological) vibe".

You got that right, that's for sure.

"Vibe", I don't know why people use this term unless they want to sound like Dennis Denuto from The Castle?

"Right wingers" and "privatising" go so well together in a sentence, but we all know privatising the ABC is a bad idea.

I remember when the left wingers were upset at Costa's beard and they wanted him to manicure it, but that just tells you all you need to know about the left wingers now doesn't it.

"So if the ABC doesn’t reflect these people’s own personal predilections and foibles exactly, then there’s something wrong with it."

It's called a "licence to complain" mate, which everyone has by the way. I agree though, it is great that the ABC has paid for some licensing to show some movies, for free for a limited time whilst the ever escalating cost of everything is wearing down the average Australian.

It's called a "licence to complain" mate, which everyone has by the way.

Thanks, that’s what I was doing too, about both right-wingers and left-wingers.

          -Dennis

          • -3

@fraxinus: Nice one, Dennis, if you ask me they’re both as dumb as a box of hammers.

Here come the down votes lol.

  • -6

At least the donkeys downvoting me could have the b@lls to actually reply me.

The display of cowardice is fantastic.
