Might want to include it in the title too, I'd imagine quite a few wouldn't generally buy spirits off Amazon

oooh good idea, willdo! thanks for the advice.

  • I guess $75 RRP is for MM 46

    • is MM 46 better than this or just a different taste?

      • +5

It is 47% strength vs 40%

        • -2

          haha thanks i stick to 40% :)

      • +2

At least it is stronger, which usually correlates with the taste intensity.

      • +9

Although it's 47% but I personally think it has a more complex flavor and very smooth compared to the regular Mark .

        • +3

That's the point of the stronger versions of spirits, not just getting drunk faster. The spirits have quite high alcohol content out of barrel 50-60+% abv, so called cask strength. After that they are diluted to reduce the alcohol content. Unfortunately, the taste is diluted as well.
So I prefer to drink stronger versions purely because of their taste.

Maker’s 46 is excellent. I normally wait till it comes down to the $60ish mark (give or take and this requires CR cashback) and then get a bottle. It’s not the best bourbon I’ve had but it’s a great everyday bourbon. It’s way better than the regular MM, more intense flavour (also helped by the extra ABV)

This used to regularly get down to $40 at Dan's.

    Ah inflation 🥲

      Don't forget taxation.

    • edited the post to include this as its a good deal. Thanks for the pickup mate!

  • MM is pretty nice 👌

Solid price on this one, too Basil Hayden

  • I've wanted to try this for ages. Finally grabbed some. Hope I'm not disappointed.

    • +1

It is pretty decent for the price

    • You can't be a connoisseur without having tried MM.

      • +1

Exactly. I've always liked bourbon but I never got much past the cheap stuff until recently so I've got quite a list to work through. I've heard this is a good start.

          Wild Turkey 101
Buffalo Trace is great value too.

          • @hippo2s: Turkey 101 is def one of the best value whiskies going here in Oz considering the ABV/proof.
Maybe a bit less so since the recent tax increase and price bump though.
Rare Breed is excellent and a step above 101, though the price reflects that. Still good value for a cask strength whiskey here in taxstralia

      • Man they drink it in every second movie I seem to see

        • You are watching the wrong movies.

          Watched John Wick?

    • +1

Maybe give Buffalo Trace a go next.

      • Truth, pretty cheap too

Dimple 12yo is $53 at BWS and the 15 yo $69

    • Tempted. I picked up Glenmorangie last time on a whim as it was reduced to $72 and is probably my favourite so far, but always keen on trying different things.

      • $72? Get the dimple 15yo for $69

Just tried it then. It's good, but I kept thinking the whole time I was drinking it that it reminded me of a smell I couldn't put my finger on. Eventually the missus suggested sauna wood (cedar?), and yep - that's it!

Not totally sure, but I think I prefer the Glenmorangie. Will need to give it a couple more goes!

While i dont think much of this straight, it is fantastic for a whisky sour

  • Also grabbed bottle of gin, oh my wallet. :/

  • Every home liquor cabinet should have MM, perfect for whiskey sours!

  • This and the old stronger original Wild Turkey used to be my two favourites in the day when I ………

Take it one day at a time.

      • Yep, hit the nail on the head.

  • Just got an email from Amazon.

"You ordered the item below, but the package was returned to us by the carrier. We’ve issued your refund."
