Google Drive / Cloud Storage

I have been using Google drive for years. Currently on the 2TB plan. Got a new SSD and started 'mirroring' files for easy local access. Something's gone wrong an Google has created hundreds of temp folders (for syncing?) and enlarging automatically day by day now. Support phone and chat is utterly useless. Looks like lots of users have had similar issues but haven't had any solutions.

  1. Have any of you experienced this? Managed to solve it?

  2. I am tired of Google nonsense and looking to move. Any recommendations or deals for like Dropbox?

  • Can't answer your first question, but Dropbox is bad. I will always recommend Backblaze or iDrive to people.

    • please elaborate further on Backblaze or iDrive my good sir (or madam)

      • You can get a per device backup subscription (unlimited storage) that syncs everything. Not sure about iDrive. Just take a look at the pricing models and they explain the features.

  • I stopped using Dropbox about 2 years ago because it deleted 500gb of files before caught it and stopped it. I tried iDrive but the upload speed so so slow it would have taken years to for my first sync. Google drive always gave me issues so I never actually paid for it.

Since Windows incorporated OS level support for remote drives they have all gone to crap.

  • what is your setup for mirroring files?

    • actually the option is called mirroring on google. (other options being stream)

  • rclone is a very good, stable and reliable tool for mapping gdrive to a local machine. It is more difficult than just using some app but lots of guides out there.
