You are barking on the wrong tree. E-mail Tim Apple or fly to Apple Headquarter to see Tim Apple and yell at him for ripping people off would be more useful than whinging on OZB.

          • @netsurfer: "You are barking on the wrong tree".

What kind of pigeon english is this pal?

No i'll complain here because bargain hunters know the pain of finding a good bargain where as Timmy Cook won't even read my email and whoever reads his emails for him, will just delete it like the good little robot they are.

    • No, it is more about realising there are other people where those laptops are really designed for.

I have a colleague who also does wedding videos and photos on weekends. His service is in the thousands per job. You think that Macbook Pro M3 Max is expensive. His camera gears and lenses are also in the thousands. It only takes him 2-3 jobs to get the income needed for a Macbook M3 Max. There are also tax benefits for him (since those items are legit work related).

My doctor friends, they fly business class. Air fare for a whole family for one overseas trip + accomodation is easily more expensive. Those people don't bother checking OZB.

At work, multiple people get that type of machines so if you really want one, get a job where work pays for that type of laptops.

The people I am with are all far richer than me. Put it this way, it is silly for me to recommend anything worse than RTX 4080 to them. For Macbook Pros, a lot of them are just rich, they will laugh if I just recommend base Macbook Pro M3 Pro. Just need to accept there are a lot of rich people.

    • I am not a doctor nor rich but I still own a M3 Max. I also don’t have a side job to make money using the Mac but I bought it to speed up my workflow. It maybe irrational that I bought the config I have but it’s what I feel it’s best for me and I am happy with it. One has the freedom to buy things they think that’s worth to them and skim or save on other things.

      • "Nor rich"

That's in your opinion, if you can afford the latest generation MacBook with the higher tier CPU you're not cash poor by the sounds of it. Everyone should overcompensate when buying a machine, that way you can throw more at it and not be disappointed at your purchase.

Nothing irrational about it, nor is it rocket science either pal.

  • I've always loved the "who these laptops are designed for" analogy.

You don't know how many amateur photographers I've met over the years who saved their a$$es off just to be able to afford the Macintosh that was going to work them. Sure, you can tell me about your colleague whose service is "in the thousands" but you're forgetting about the young aspiring photographer starting out who could only JUST afford the machine and has to pirate the Adobe suite because he/she a can't afford a few more grand for all the software.

The doctors that don't check OzBargain are irrelevant because they aren't doing it tough and have to search for a discount.

Yep, just walk out there and get a job which pays you enough to afford the laptop you want, it's that simple….., you can stop with that garbage now, thanks.

    • Complain to Tim Apple please. Stop giving yourself excuses. You just don't have a job where work gives you a Macbook Pro 16 inch. Find one and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Also, two wrongs don't make it right. Picking M3 Max, if unintentionally, is wrong. If intentionally, is shrewd.

      • Jesus your responses are robotic netsurfer….

"Go get job that give you MacBook bleep boop, stop making excuse boop bleep".

If you want to relinquish everything to beat someone into a job just so you can get your work to give you a six thousand dollar Mac, go for it. But some of us Aussies have morals……and standards.

    • You don't get it.

      • Doctors get those expensive laptops because for a lot of them, their salary packaging has a component for tech gear upgrades each year. That amount can be $8000 to $10,000. They cannot justify multiple laptops being work related, so a high end laptop suits them. After salary packaging, it is basically half price.
      • 16 inch laptops, they should be used for work (they are big laptops). Of course, if your job has salary packaging benefit, then it also makes sense.

If you REALLY love to have one and it is not work related, talk to your company to see if they can do salary packaging for you to help you save. Honestly, Macs are getting ubiquitous nowadays. They are not that special.

      • All this crap about "doctors get MacBook for this reason" and "16 inch laptops should be used for work" are just your opinions.

Some people like to use them for fun which is work but if you love what you do, it's not work is it.

You need to stop with the "its all about money" mentality and put a "bit of heart and soul" back into your way of thinking mate.

        May I suggest some karaoke?

I don’t think you understand their point.

          • -1

@PainToad: I know you'd like to believe that, but unfortunately it's you that doesn't understand my original point.

You used to be able to get a default configuration 16" MacBook Pro with a 1TB SSD for $4049, then when JB or Good Guys had a 10% sale, you could get that machine for $3644.10c.
Now if you want a default config 16" MacBook Pro, with a 1TB SSD, you have to get the M3 Max version from Apple for $5999, but what's even worse again is JB and the Good Guys don't stock the $5999 model so you couldn't get $599 off the machine even if you wanted to, which would bring it down to $5400.
So for a "default configuration" (yes pizzaguy if you're reading this) 16" MacBook Pro with a 1TB SSD, the price has gone up $1755.90c from October 2021 to November 2023

As Steve Jobs would say, "Are you getting it yet?".

I've had this conversation so many times it's ridiculous, and what's even more ridiculous is it always ends with "Wealthy people should buy MacBook Pro's , poorer people should buy MacBook Air's, but if the poorer people want a MacBook Pro they should get a better job".
We all know why some people can't get that job, which is generally because some donkey is happy to work a 60 week with no breaks, because that's what he was used too, back in his home country.

            Here come the downvotes…..

How's that now I've spelt it out for you and everyone else in this thread that couldn't give a sh1t?

P.S Thanks for reading my blog lol.

            • @scooba: I saw my name, heyy.

What's that obsession with "default configuration that has 1TB"? What's the problem with non-default configuration that has 1TB SSD, which is cheaper than that M3 Max that seems overly frustrating to you?

Yeah, we might be missing your twisted point.

              • @pizzaguy: “What's the problem with non-default configuration that has 1TB SSD, which is cheaper than that M3 Max that seems overly frustrating to you?”

You obviously didn’t read my earlier post, thus the reason for your asinine “twisted point” comment.

I don’t know if you know this, but OzBargain is a bargain hunting site, so the problem is when you say what’s wrong with the non default configuration or what the normal people like myself call “built to order”, is that you can’t get 10% in the sales on BTO machines.

Does it make sense now I’ve spelt it out or maybe you need to go back and actually read my previous comment that you replied too for it to make my rant…..make sense?

    Good deal!!

  • No 10% gift cards for tgg :(

    • I think the HIM gift card on sale at Woolworths includes TGG but you have to buy 28*$100 of them. Not sure if TGG allows that at checkout

      • Just a heads up, when I used my TGG GCs, it allowed me to only use max. 2 at checkout.

  • Just so you know you can get the m3 pro with 18gb ram for 3300 on the edu store. I recently got 8% cashback and a 240$ gift card too.

    • 14 or 16?
      Can you share link please

      • 14, I should have said. Just access via education store website.

        • Yes this is the 16 inch deal.
