Replacement for a Pixel 5

Looking for a replacement for an aging Pixel 5 I gave to a family friend's 11 year old.

Would prefer to keep it under $300 if possible and prefer new to secondhand. Any ideas on what I'd be looking at so I can keep an eye on prices?

I checked Mobileciti to get an idea on prices but even the Pixel 5 still sells for $550 new which seems ridiculous to me.

The Pixel 7 or 7a is regularly 499.

Motorola has also been knocking it out of the park with their mid range phones. Many models to choose from, many of which are using Snapdragon socs

The G84 in particular is a popular model on Ozb

    • Pixel 7 is too far out of budget.

The G84 is what I was looking at, more RAM than the Pixel 5 is nice.
Am unsure how the processor compares to the one in the Pixel 5. On paper it looks worse?

very similar. It generally won't struggle unless you use it for graphics intensive games or multitask between 20 apps at the same time.

Pixel 5's possessor is just about 5% faster than G84's, but G84 has 12GB RAM and that performs much smoother and is faster than P5 (with 8GB RAM).

          Cheers.

Don't feel comfortable buying a brand new phone with just slightly better performance.
I was hoping to see a decent increase in performance but guess I'll have to re-look at budget.

          Thanks everyone for the information.

          • @stenchlord: The G84 also has a bigger screen and much bigger battery.

I think the performance difference would be noticeable overall.

          • @stenchlord: I've got a JB hi Fi $30 coupon and if you spend over $300 you can use it by this Saturday 30 March. Let me know if that helps and I will PM the coupon code to you for free. JB price for a moto G84 is $399. You can give JB sales team a call asking for a better price, they usually reduce the price by 20 bucks or so, If you buy JB gift cards, you may bring the cost down by another 2.5%. Stacking up all these, you can get it by about $350 to $360.

            • @alan737: Thanks for the offer but I'm going to hold off for now.

Going to shop around, thinking of maybe upgrading my personal phone (Pixel 7) and giving it instead.
