Laptop Help - Yoga Pro 7 14" or IdeaPad Pro 5 16"?

Hi, I am currently on the fence between these two laptops. Here are their specs and price.

Yoga Pro 7 14" - at $1880
Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 155H Processor
32 GB LPDDR5X-7467MHz (Soldered)
512 GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 TLC
14.5" 3K (3072 x 1920), IPS, Glare, Touch, 100%DCI-P3, 400 nits, 120Hz, Glass
Integrated Graphics

IdeaPad Pro 5 - At $1618
AMD Ryzen™ 7 8845HS Processor
Integrated Graphics
32 GB LPDDR5X-6400MHz (Soldered)
1 TB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC
16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 100%sRGB, 350 nits, 120Hz

Would it be wise to go with the Intel Yoga Pro 7 or Ryzen IdeaPad is the better choice here?

They are rather dissimilar laptops, one is a 16inch desktop replacement (sort of) weighing in at 2KG's and the other is a 14inch ultrabook @ 1.49KG.

Where are you going to use it, how are you going to use it and do you plan to travel with it?

  • As per scrimshaw, they are quite different and thus hard to compare just the spec sheet.

Be realistic with yourself; if you are going to be moving your laptop around frequently, taking it on the go and what not, a smaller form factor is super handy.

I plan to do work and some casual gaming on the side. Will move from time to time so mobility is important too. However I have used Legion 5 weighing 2.5kg as a mobile laptop so anyone of these will be an upgrade for me mobility wise. If the Yoga was AMD i would have instantly bought it as it is actually an attractive form factor. But as it is Intel I am quite hesitant. That's where I need your advice if it is worthwhile going for the intel version.

In terms of gaming performance the AMD 16inch laptop has a better iGPU and since it's physically bigger it'll also have better cooling (since the heatsinks are larger).

The downside is you're carrying an extra half kilo around, so if you don't mind the weight and just want the performance, get the 16inch laptop.

The (not touch)screen is also not as high resolution, but you probably won't notice it unless you're sitting super close to your laptop.

  • Yoga Pro >> IdeaPad in terms of build quality. The choice would be much easier if Yoga Pro 7 14" AMD (that also uses R7 8845HS) can be configured with 32GB RAM in Lenovo.

    • Exactly but 32GB is not available at the moment for the AMD version. Harvey Norman has one yoga pro 7 7840HS/32GB but thats $2799 and is not justified imo.
