Live Streaming a Sports Event

Hi all,

I am looking to find a data option for live streaming a cricket tournament for 2 days, approx. 9 hours of streaming per day, on youtube through OBS/DSLR camera. Just not sure what kind of data pack would be most appropriate. I will have access to power at the cricket ground. Any help would be appreciated!

Do you have 5G on your phone, and 18 hours x HD/4K worth of data to use?

Buy 2 of these, one for each day with cashback will cost you nothing and 60GB should easily cover you for a Full HD stream each day.

You could even get away with 1 if you watch your bitrates and know what you are doing.

If you haven't tested it before, make your DSLR can cope with streaming for hours in similar conditions without overheating.

    • Thank you, didn't think about that one haha! It's a canon 90D and I read somewhere online that if mirroring EOS Utility onto OBS, then it doesn't use full processor so hopefully it will be okay.

Sign up for a 5G home internet plan and bring the modem with you. Most plans have unlimited data and no lock in contract. Telstra has 1000GB data limit but first month is only $1.

Won't work as home broadband is locked to the address its assigned to.
Just use the cricket clubs NBN connection you should already have permission to stream the event off them anyway.
That way it will cost nothing and you'll get far better results then using some overly congested mobile network.

      • Use the cricket club address. Not a lot of cricket grounds will have an NBN connection.

Most do actually have some sort of internet as they are basically small businesses now a days.
Depending obviously where the club is located most city based clubs will definitely have it.
You would need permission to stream the event anyway.

  • Case in point of a random sports club https://www.nbnco.com.au/results/V2-CT most are connected to the internet as most sell grog and other stuff and need EFPos access.
    Plus for ordering etc.
