Need Cheap Multi City Flights (MEL-NYC-AMD-MEL)

Hi Guys, I am looking for bargain on multi city route for my upcoming trip in December 2024- Jan 2025.

So, this is what i need, +/- 3 days:

22 Dec MEL- NYC,
5 Jan NYC - AMD,
22 Jan AMD- MEL

I have looked through few websites and found that cheap option for me would be to book all this as 3 separate flights, and that gets to about $4400 in economy, without any self transfers at AIRPORT.

Plus, I was thinking of applying for ANZ Black credit card, which gets me 180000 bonus points (approx. $800 in giftcards, and $150 cashback.

Just need some valuable suggestions, if i should do something else.

    There’s no cheap flights to US at Christmas time.. there’s just “not as expensive”

    You should drop either NYC or AMD for your PEAK travel trip if you want to save costs. 4 grand seems reasonable for that amount of travel around the globe.

      Yeah I guess after COVID this price is the new normal now. Its just that never spent that kinda money on flights before, so just trying to cut down cost wherwver I can.

      No, I haven't. Is it different than normally how we check flight like one way, return and multi city?

        You can do it by selecting round the world but it looks like it might not be cheaper.

        Try playing around with Skyscanner. I think you might find it a tad cheaper but you might not like the flights.

    If you flexible with where you land in europe there are some new low cost carriers like norse air that on sale fly usa to europe $200usd. Saw vegas to paris advertised $299rt. Paris is bullet train ride away to amsterdam. Wife and I were looking at these flights as they lined up nicely with with some cheap US flights from Fiji air. For a double Disney adventure with amsterdam and Vegas thrown in.

      Should fly to Mumbai instead $2900
      You won’t find much availability with points at Christmas

    Option 1: 24 Dec
    Cathay Pacific with 1h 25m stopover in Hong Kong
    $1924

    Option 2:
    China Southern with stopover in Guangzhou
    $1677
    If leaving 19 or 26 Dec, 1 hour or 3h 40m stopover
    If leaving 24 Dec, 13 hour stopover

    Option 3: Self transfer
    MEL —> KUL on Batik Air on 21 Dec = $599
    KUL —> JFK on Saudia on 24 Dec = $802 (5h 45m stop in Jeddah)
    or instead of Saudia, Turkish/Qatar for ~$150 more
    = $1401

    Leg 2: NYC —> AMD
    Outside of your dates but nothing matches this deal
    JFK —> AMD on 11 Jan on Etihad Airways (3h in Abu Dhabi)
    $727

    Leg 3: AMD —> MEL
    18/19/23 Jan on VietJet Air
    $524 without luggage + meals
    $690 with

    Total: $2818 to $3341

    (subtract $166 if you don't need luggage on last flight)
