  • Anyone actually used them? Been quoted $9k for Invisalign and my PHI will generously give me $1000 back.

There are other brands out that are often cheaper than Invisalign: ClearCorrect, Angel Aligners, Spark, etc.

Costs/suitability will depend on your case but for example, Australian Smile Clinics (NSW, QLD, VIC) quote between $2,699 to $3,999.

FYI you can often spread the cost of the treatment across mutliple claiming periods (even if you pay upfront) if you get a letter from your dentist stating that you'll be undergoing treatment during that time. Perhaps try somewhere like Dental Excellence?

      • Sorry yes, I can claim $2000 if the orthodontist splits the charges over 2 years, which is my lifetime limit. Still pretty hard to swallow (no pun intended).

From a quick flick around the website it's not clear whether these guys interface with PHI. Famously, the online teeth aligner mobs didn't let you claim your PHI with them.

EDIT - I'm in Melbourne, might go have a consult with the first mob you linked, thanks for that! The Adelaide dentist you also linked looks promising but I haven't lived in Adelaide for many years :(

        • I was just basing the Adelaide recommendation on your location. For Australian Smile Clinics you can 100% claim your rebates in the clinic - I recently finished my course with them so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

          • @Dumax: Thanks Dumax, super helpful - I'd better update my OzB location in my profile!

    • Jeez 9k ? How many trays was that?

I have a bit of a complicated case and need 2.5 years worth maybe a bit more final refinement was a little over 5

      • Can't remember how many trays but it was less than 2 years total, and only cosmetic (really only have crooked bottom teeth).

It was a dentist, not an orthodontist, so i feel like i may have been taken for a ride. Definitely want to get a couple of quotes (including from this Australian Smiles Clinic mob)

        • True mine was a dentist too, and yeah same just cosmetic and only bottom teeth.

I think between the whole treatment , and a peridontal full debrade it was like 7ish less rebates through phi

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Jimothy are you in melbourne? If so could you PM me who you ended up using? seems that now that dentists are allowed to administer clear aligners (as opposed to only orthodontists), the shonks have really come out of the woodwork, but sounds like you got a good one.

paid $1500 all inclusive at my dentist for Invisalign (7 retainers) in Jan 2024

E/ yes this includes the dentist visits from beginning to end and all associated costs

    • That's great price…you sure they are genuine Invisalign tho? My dentist tried to bait and switch my daughter into Angel Align…needless to say not my dentist any longer.

      • you sure they are genuine Invisalign tho?

Why would you want genuine Invisalign if there's a cheaper option ?

        • That's like why would you buy an Apple, Google or Samsung phone when there's cheap Chinese alternative brands. Everyone can do their own research and make up their own minds. For my daughter there was difference in the mounting hooks. The Invisalign ones are easier to clip in.

My problem was we were quoted Invisalign, on the quote, contract etc. then when the inserts came it was Angel align. We spoke to the owner and returned it for a full refund. Price difference was 3000 dollars.

Went to a different place and have nothing for positive things.

      • Yes it's using the Invisalign website and app for bi-weekly check-in photos

        I'm in NSW

        • Nice price then! Well done.

mind sharing the name of your dentist?

    • Are you in Vic? Interested to know, all the orthodontist visit I went was way overpriced.

  • I'm obviously biased, as I posted the deal/referral.

However, I did a tonne of research at the time and compared all the clear aligner options online. What I found is companies like Byte, EZ smile and (now defunct) Smile Direct Club didn't have the comprehensive monitoring by a dentist/orthodontist.

I believe bitesoft offers an option that includes dentist monitoring for $3,399. Which is more expensive when compared to Linea's Tier 1 and 2 plans.

Anyway, do your own research. There's plenty of websites rating them. In my experience, I have been quite happy overall. I needed a refinement at the end of my first treatment. But this was more a personal choice. Without PHI the max cost at their partnered dentist in Sydney was $200.

    • 😂

    • One for upper and other for lower…

      • Every year he went for alignment. Maybe 2025 he will put another review 😀

  • I was quoted $1998 for clear aligner. Does it work for overbites?

    • That's pretty steep pricing for clear correct through a dentist and not an ortho. As long as you're happy.
