Price matched the Grey 1TB model at JB through online chat

Was unable to price beat at officeworks. Seems dodgey but the reason was because the product model from amazon is xxxxxx/AM where the one at office works was xxxxxx/WW. Even though they are exact same thing, I guess its cause it just comes from the US

  • If you look in the product details further down in the listing, the model is actually /WW and not /AM and they will price beat it

Source - did this about 2 weeks ago

    • Are you sure it was through Amazon US? It has ‎MU-PC1T0T/AM in the product title. Down in product specs it only has ‎MU-PC1T0T.

I originally found the model number in the product specs to show them (so just ‎MU-PC1T0T), but they still wouldnt accept that, they need …/WW at the end. Then they saw the ../AM in the title and insta declined.

      • Went through my Amazon browsing history and while it was this listing, they have updated it and the model details have been changed

But for future reference if the local model details are further down in the listing, that’s enough for Officeworks

        • AU retailers don't like American products as they all come from China with extra profit margin (& CI/A tracking chips ;)

Bunnings does this, they have the same product as say Mitre10 but slightly different s/n so they won’t match it.

I've got a problem with this, but my choice was 500Gb. Every time I download a movie from internet to it, almost the first third of the movie lags and tears. I wonder if anyone here has the same problem as me and knows how to fix it, please guide me. Otherwise I have to buy a new one. Thank you so much !!!

JB wouldn't price match for me. Oh well. Technically cheaper through Amazon anyway since there's 1.4% cashback on personal computing atm.

    • same - such a great product so I might buy it anyway.

    • 2% cashback at TopCashback

  • Is it true with SSD one day it will lost all data due to the internal battery runs out/die? Or if we access it once a while this will keep the battery charged?

    • +3

I dont think SSD's have batteries inside. they just need to be powered up occasionally. so if im not using it I would plug my SSD's into the computer once or twice a year or something and then disconnect just incase.

Is it true … one day it will lost all data due to the internal battery runs out

Not true. SSDs use flash memory, the same type of memory that's in SD cards and MicroSD cards and USB thumb drives. No battery needed, but newer SSDs with cache might have a tiny battery or supercap, that lasts just long enough to write the cache to the flash memory if power is unexpectedly cut (maybe a second or two at the most).

All flash memory has an expected storage life of 10-20 years, however:

      • MLC and TLC flash memory is more prone than SLC flash memory to develop errors in that time, and the error correction algorithms may not be able to remove all errors.

      • The memory "fades" faster in higher temperatures, so don't store flash memory of any sort in hot places like your car's glove box, if the stored data is important.

      • Flash memory wears out. Most use a wear-leveling algorithm to get maximum possible life, but an SSD used on a busy server is going to reach it's wearout life before an SSD in a home PC.

  • Also for the 1tb would this is cheaper than buying internal ssd plus enclosure?

1TB was $86 recently from amazon US via amazon AU (I ordered one).

at that price I think if you buy a 1TB SSD and enclosure, you will be cheaping out on both. most likely not a good SSD and not TLC like T7.
also cheap enclosure is probably not optimal for cooling SSD temperature and usually slow transfer speed and sometimes failure (cheap controller chip in enclosure dies).

  • is this considered a good one? looking at swapping some of my stuff to SSD as I migrate

  • Thanks got the 1Tb!

  • wish the T9 would go on sale.

lol wish the T200 would go on sale, i mean where does these comments end really.

I had no luck getting JB to price match as it is not AU stock.

  • Samsung still giving people hassle if you need to warranty claim or do you send it back to Amazon?

I am reliant to buy Samsung outside of Australia because Samsung Australia either won’t help or make life difficult.

T7 is a good drive. Wish the 2TB was a bit cheaper though. T9 are way over priced but unless you have the appropriate USB ports you are wasting your money. Think T5 was USB 3.1 and T7 was USB 3.2 but unless you plug into USB-C port they under perform using USB-A.

I have several of these. Great drives, work best in USB3.2 port even better if it’s a USB-C port.
