While looking at the cheap virgin flights posted I came across these on Skyscanner.com.au
Its a combination of Qantas and United to get to LAX

The combination of airlines can be booked through expedia. The virgin deal is better for date range but i like flying with qantas more.

I tried 14th May - 20th June and it was $1175 and i dont think you have the $30 card fee so may work out cheaper!
Most of may/june dates work. Let me know what dates you find and how much! Hope this helps anyone looking for tickets!

  as you mentioned, Virgin is actually cheaper… don't really see this as a deal

    just providing more options and dates. No card fee and some of the flights are shorter than the virgin ones.
    on the dates i provided 14th may - 21st June. The cheapest flight is $1152 + $30 so $1182 while qantas/United is $1175. It is infact cheaper on this particular day.

  I think posting this leading with Qantas can be a little misleading.

  Its really United to LAX, with a domestic Qantas flight SYD to BNE

  United is in a lower class of its own. Even Qantas haters generally would acknowledge that

  All inc for $1109.43, with a layover in Melbourne with Virgin, for the same dates you mentioned…

    ??? The OP has clearly stated they are not posting this based on price alone but rather for the inclusion of QANTAS in the itin. This may be to earn status credit or for QF lounge access or even just to avoid Virgin's happiness-hype boys-and-girls BS. However as ozpete has pointed out the QF sectors are only the domestic sectors BNE-SYD and SYD-BNE.

  Personal reasons for choosing an Airline is not a deal/bargain, post it in the forums, I don't think this price is a bargain at all !

  I've just booked on from the other bargain - I was surprised that at the payment page to be offered Bpay - used this and it removed the $30 per person fee, saving me $150 :)

  Earns 100% in most Star Alliance partners. Only worth picking this over Virgin, if you want/have Star Alliance Gold rather than Velocity Gold.

  If you want Feb/Mar LA return (skiing!!) there are fares most days ex Syd/Mel/Bri with V for under $1200….a lot would see this 777 seat as the best economy option on the route so a good deal..I flew LA round trip in economy with V in Sep/Oct and it wasn't unpleasant.
