Been looking at getting a pizza oven and have been sitting on youtube for the past week researching. This seems to be a decent price at 25% off.

Anaconda have a sale on the rest of the Ooni gear aswell.

    Will this stack ?

    • +1

With the sloped top design, it would be hazardous to stack the ovens.

      • Maybe they have some kind of accessory to attach them?

The spotlight one is amazing . I wouldn't bother buying this one if the other is already fantastic for $130.
I just realised no more stick exists.. that's a real shame it was incredible value.

      no more stick exists..

      it uses gas.

      • +1

Might have to use the match stick holder in the box if the spark stops working.
But my typo sticks out like a sore thumb.

    • I've been looking for the infamous Coles one aswell that I've heard stories about

There's plenty of clones, always going on sale.

I'm sure it's great but there's a pretty big learning curve.

  • Grabbed one for $517 in November '22 from Anaconda. Good deal.

Paid this price about a year ago. Makes awesome pizza's. Bit of a learning curve but excellent results.

looking at getting one of these too, care to share some learnings? :)

I'm not the person you asked but a few recommendations off the top of my head:

Follow the dough recipes closely, including weighing your ingredients so it's just right.

You put the toppings on the pizza after you've placed the stretched dough on the peel, so you need to work fast so the dough doesn't get stuck. You can also put flour (such as semolina) under the base so it slides off easier. You can also part-bake (parbake) the dough bases and then have them ready to be topped and you won't have as much of a problem with sticking.

And use 00 flour for the dough for nice fluffy bases. Apparently you can also use bread flour if you want that thick, chewy, dense base you get at takeaway shops.

        • awesome, thanks Fez!

  • This is a good price for the Koda 12.

I purchased my Karu 12 from Botanex Australia and they're also doing the same price as Anaconda for the Koda.

For those interested in the Karu 12 (dual fuel) it's going for what looks like the lowest it gets at $429. https://botanex.com.au/products/ooni-karu-portable-wood-and-…

They also have the Karu 12 gas burner for $151 (lower than Anaconda who have it for $179) https://botanex.com.au/products/ooni-karu-optional-gas-burne…
So $580 for the dual fuel option.

    • Did you notice much difference with using wood as opposed to gas?

      • +3

        I can answer that.

Yes, it's much more hassle with wood, it's harder to control, and - to me - it's impossible to tell why would anyone go for a small woodfired oven instead of a gas one.

        • Username checks out. Thanks for that.

        • Flavour. For me all of the hassle is worth it the moment you take that first bite

          • +1

@suburbanmale: I’ve been reliably informed that with a 60-90 second cook time, it’s physically impossible for the pizza to absorb any wood or smoke flavours in that time.

            • @ASR-Briggs: Ive more reliably tasted the difference between my karu with wood and gas. Gas gets close, but wood is just that little bit better.

              • -1

@suburbanmale: Unless you're blind tasting them (which is impossible) your senses are easily influenced by preconceptions.

      • I decided on the duel fuel for the option. Wood is said to have a nicer flavour. Completely get pizzaguy though as I've only used gas since owning it.

  • If you don't need portable, the Everdure Kiln is great.

Bought different model OONI from STONEX before Xmas. Cheaper than other suppliers and delivered free within 48 hours. Excellent customer service. Currently have the Koda 12 Gas for $485 as well as a clearance on other models. https://stonex.com.au/products/ooni-koda-portable-gas-fired-…

Glad I got the Spotlight one, that was an underrated post imo!

  • Aldi were selling a similar pizza oven with an inbuilt spinning base for turning the pizza. I would strongly consider looking for that feature, it'll make cooking a lot easier. I bought the Coles one myself. These things are great, however you don't need to pay this much, unless your into brand names.

    • Re spinning stones - it's probably quite limiting when it comes to the pizza size, ie. the pizza you bake on it would be smaller, as you need to give it some margin on the rotating stone, otherwise it won't rotate.

Unless your pizzas are perfectly round and you've mastered launching them off the paddle onto a circular stone…

      • Hot tip: build your pizza on an aluminium tray and throw the tray in. Rotate the tray with a peel. Once the pizza is mostly cooked you can slide it off the aluminium tray and finish cooking on the stone.

  • I have been thinking about getting new Gozney Arc XL, however ot costs about $1400. Not sure if is worth the extra $$ over this, despite having room for a 16" pizza.

    • IMO the oven in this deal isn't worth the extra over the cheapest ones, like the aforementioned one from Spotlight - now unavailable. They're both simple, small devices; there are few things that may break, so even the cheaper one should last.

Gozney Arc XL is a completely different story. Expensive, though.

  • I bought the $65 Kmart deal a few months ago which I have been loving and hating. Pizza is delicious, when I get everything perfectly lined up. Pizza ready to go in when it hits +400C bake for a minute whilst keeping fire alive. Problem is that at that temp the fuel runs out in about 2 minutes and this oven (I assume this I where your pay more than $6 for a proper one) does not retain any heat. So baking more than 2 pizzas is a pain.

Is there an option of using like a gas fired one like this with smoke chips or something? I found a blog saying you could but that’s it.
