Facebook Marketplace Scammer Using My Address

Hi all, recently there's been so many people coming to my parents house at all times of the day including 10pm at night with the intention of buying a Samsung TV. Someone on marketplace is using their home address, and then asking for a deposit to secure the TV.

I have gone to police with the buyer who was frauded, but they can't do anything. I've reported to Cyber.org.au, and have reported the marketplace listing but they refuse to remove it, saying it does not go against Community Standards, which is so frustrating.

My parents are elderly with limited English so all these visitors are quite distressing and alarming. Police basically says there's nothing they can do, it's in Facebook's hands, but I am unsure why after reporting, it is not taken down?

It's concerning in case a buyer becomes aggressive as they got scammed. The scammer maintains contact up to the point they're outside the house, and even instructs them to knock.

FB has no contact details. I've stuck up a sign at the door but does not deter them.

What else can I do?

    Is this still available?

  • It really sucks but there is nothing else you can do. Just keep the sign up and specifically tell them not to knock, they need to speak to their bank. These scammers just pick addresses at random. Usually once the ad is taken down they will pick a new address.

In case you haven't already seen it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/605713

Might be worth messaging them to see if they found a solution.

      Hopefully they are okay.

Put an ad up for the same type of Samsung TV with a lower price. Give fake address of someone you don't like.

    • Not sure if you're joking but that's very poor sense of humour. Some idiots will do it or at least they get an idea.

  • Try emailing [email protected]

This happened to my parents place it stopped after a couple days but some tried entering the side gate which had a lock on luckily, maybe print a note on A4 paper and stick on front door ?

Post a link here.. if enough people report it, it will probably get taken down.

Could also try reporting the seller's account as 'impersonating someone else', they used to make people upload ID if they're account was flagged with this (no idea if they still do that, not that it would matter much as the scammer would just make a new account)
