I purchased this for my parents to crush big pills they were having difficulty swallowing. The device is big, easy to hold and crushes pills with remarkable ease, I tested it on a 1000mg Metformin pill (big and hard tablet) and it took no effort. The additional over sized handle with easy grips makes it really easy for people with dexterity difficulties.

I highly recommend purchasing this for your elderly family, for children or if you have pets, but check that you're allowed to crush the pills before you do!

Handle Diameter of 15.87cm with a crushing chamber 3.2cm wide x 4cm deep.

Will this be enough to crush pills to fine powder ?

Easily, sometimes on first pass you get it to crumbs, but second pass often reduces to powder.

Thanks Deadalready. I'm glad there wasn't a full stop between "pills they". Cause otherwise this might explain your existence.

  • I think my pets would struggle even with the big grips.

Will this cut other stuff that isn't in pill form into a fine powder?

Check with your doctor or pharmacist first. The whole point of larger tablets can be so they dissolve slowly in the stomach and act as a delayed dosage delivery mechanism. Crushing into crumbs or powder would mean the drug is fast absorbing which may not be what you want. Think OxyContin and the Oxy epidemic.

Just for the record, I agree - which is why I've mentioned it in my post.

Generalising "extended/modified/sustained/XR/SR/MR" SHOULD NOT be crushed because they are of the type you've mentioned. Another one is "Enteric coated" because they are designed to pass through the stomach and dissolve in the intestines.

Many tablets the the effect is less to do with the digestive system and more their interaction with the other systems of the body.

    • Also harder to shelf after crushing them.
