Unable to Change Flight Date on Flexi Airline Ticket

Hello OzBargain community, I had the chance to book an airline ticket via a 3rd party site and not through the airline (Singapore Air).

The flight is scheduled in two months time, however due to unforeseen circumstances (Loss of relative) I had to make the trip earlier. I called up the agent and told her about my request to change the time, she then told me that she will check the airline for confirmation.

An hour later I got an email which reads:

Good day!

We would like to inform you that after contacting the airline, you are not permitted to change the date of your flight. As much as we want to help you, however, as a travel agent, we need to understand the restrictions on your ticket.

If there’s anything else, please do not hesitate to let us know by responding to this email, or you may find our contact details on the link below.

Please be advised that we are now operating 24 hours, 7 days a week.

My question is can I get my request escalated to who? I have paid extra for a flexi ticket.

Any legit suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

Read the Terms & Conditions of your ticket.

Sounds like you didn't buy a flexi ticket. Or, if you did, the travel agent didn't.

I think it's the first one - OP can you double check that the fair type is actually flexible?

I had the chance to book an airline ticket via a 3rd party site

    You must be new here.

    • 3rd party I mean.. iwantthatflgiht.com.au

        iwantthatflgiht.com.au

        Oh no !!!

      • @IWantThatFlight

Also, while I have your attention your website still says ©2017 - FFS.

iwantthatflight.com.au doesnt sell tickets. You purchased elsewhere.

        • Doesn't iwantthatflight earn a commission? If they are recommending dodgy travel agencies for a commission then they should take some responsibility.

        • How does that work?

  • Fare types here: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/flying-withus/fare-typ…

If your ticket is a Flexi Y, B or E ticket then changes are allowed.

    • Thats not what the reply said….

"however, as a travel agent, we need to understand the restrictions on your ticket."

if Im correct all 3rd party sites like iwantthatflight beatthatflight skyscanner just scans travel agents site like gotogate , byojet , auntbetty, booking.com for flight details. then redirects your booking thru the travel agent site. ( byojet )

    1. Look likes you did not pay extra for the flexi ticket. You may have pay extra for the "premium" services of the TA, which get back to you within an hour.

    2. IWantThatFlight is not your travel agent. They scanned the cheapest TA and you can check your email confirmation for your TA.

    • hmmm what is this?

The BYO JET refund link for those that bought refundable tickets.

Book direct with the airline next time

      Wouldnt that be more expensive?

You get what you pay for

If you genuinely believe you paid for the flexifare and this was indicated somewhere at time of booking maybe fair trading. You’d probably need some evidence that you paid for the flexi fare, like in your booking info or invoice. Unfortunately this might not be quick enough for your needs. You could also contact Singapore airlines and request a change for compassionate reasons, and state that you feel you’ve been duped by the booking agent and they might help, though they wouldn’t be obliged to.

I prefer to buy air ticket direct from airlines . not travel agents.

  • You can't change a flight now just to attend a funeral now. Would you not have attended the funeral and still had the holiday anyway?

    • If it was a flexible fare then they could?

Maybe the funeral is in the same country as the holiday, so they want to go earlier to attend the funeral.
