      It’s a Japanese brand known earlier on in its history as “Unique Clothing Warehouse”, which was eventually shortened to “Uniclo”. The formal registration of it contained an error though, mistaking the C for a Q, but the name stuck.

      It's a Japanese company. Originally called Unique Clothing Warehouse and they were going to shorten it, but there was either a typo or miscommunication and now it's Uniqlo.

      It was founded in Japan ~40 years ago. Doubt they considered the name of a university in a country that wasn't in their target market.

    How do these compare to the $4.50 ones at Big W and Kmart? The same/better/worse? I know the Uniqlo U are considered superior but I wear those out and would like some <$5 throwaway ones at home that are still relatively comfortable.
