E-Bike Advice - Need a Two Seater Any Ideas?

Hi All

Just curious on everyones opinion here.. the Dirodi is the brand everyone is jumping on but they are incredibly expensive. Are there any good alternatives out there worth looking at? I need two seats, I want a higher power motor as a result of carrying two passengers. But we have figured out this is could be good alternative to driving 5 minutes away to the shops. Fat tyre would be ideal as our footpaths are stuffed and the roads are too busy to ride on. Not really fussed on it being legal for the road.

Any ideas? There are so many brands out there, and some god awful looking designs too, I really like how the Dirodi looks but I am not spending 5k on an electric bike.

I'd strongly recommend two separate bikes, unless one of the people in question has mobility issues.

OP needs a motor for a 3km trip to the shops. Clearly there are serious mobility issues.
Also wants a big illegal motor and fat tyres for riding on the footpath! I hope the neighbours are quick at getting out of the way.

Pfft, implying anyone walks these days anyway, we would be the first people using the footpaths in our area in months..

        • +4

A bicycle? I'm baffled as to why anyone thinks they need a motor for such a short ride, on footpaths no less.

We will end up like parts of the US, where people are so obese, they drive to their own mailbox.

You would strongly recommend an even more expensive solution to a request already asking for cheaper options?

      • Two entry level ebikes $2000-3000 easy. You dont need the hype brands

        • -5

Is this intentional stupidity? Not trying to be an (profanity) or anything but legit question here, I already said I don't want to buy the hype brands, and once again, for the second time, you are suggesting I spend more money as a solution to my request of spending less money.

          • +4

@doobey1231: You're being a bit of a (profanity). I've posted the cheapest way to achieve what you're trying to achieve. Let me know the solution you go with, I'm very curious to see how you'd solve it for cheaper

            • -7

@jugsy: I already have a solution mate, buy one two seater bike, even if I buy the high end dirodi I am still coming out cheaper than if I bought two bikes. You successfully failed. Sorry, I can only assume you are either being dilberately obtuse or you simply aren't reading forum posts correctly. to tell me I don't need a hype bike, after I already said I don't want one. Like comprehension mate please I beg of you make these conversations easier.

$2800, I see these everywhere on northern beaches, teenagers have these instead of cars.

$3000 bike with a $30 Tourney drivetrain. How long do you reckon that will last? :-)

    • Yeah I don't want a 250w though, once you opt that its gets over the top expensive.

    • How do they fit 2 (two) riders (2 person bike) ? ? ?

    • 150kg limit.

  • Dutch cargo bike with electric assist?

  • Second hand? Those dual Dirodi bikes are averaging 2k on marketplace.

    • I havent seen much under 3k and those are the lower spec 250w, maybe fetching a premium in the area? Theres hundreds around here.

Cheaper and more healthy to just walk …

    • -6

Is it really so hard to just stick to the topic of conversation? If I wanted advice on how to be more healthy I would've asked for that. Yes, not buying anything at all is certainly cheaper than buying something, what a savvy ozbargainer you are..

Ah, got ya … you won't be able to virtue signal without a hip cool toy to ride on ;)

        • Virtue signal what? Its a hilly area and I would be carrying shopping. I could not care less what others thought.

  • Geeez, imagine running out of battery on that bad boy.

    • What bad boy?

      • Meaning boy/girl/other …

Without disclosing your actual weight, what's the approximate payload?

    • Would be roughly 160ish kg all up.

      • There are low-cost cargo e-bikes that can carry your weight $3,299 plus accessories. One advantage of this solution is the minimal to zero legal jeopardy. Two scooters would be a good option but NSW government is so backward.

My guess would be roughly four large sacks of brushed potatoes.

      Edit: I was wrong.

    😲

  • for 3000 get a motorbike…

If you do get booked you'll get done for unregistered and uninsured vehicle, because if the bike doesn't meet the rules, that is what it is classed as.

Your local cops must be very different to other places if they don't like hassling people riding on footpaths and issuing fines to riders of over-powered bikes who lead with agro.

Colour me shocked, another bloke that cant read the mission instructions. If I need legal advice I will consult a lawyer, not what I was asking. Thanks mate.

  • What about the aldi super 73 knock off for $1200, its ok but a bit heavy

  • Perhaps something from Leitner? https://leitner.com.au/collections/electric-bikes ?

And for around $400 extra you can DIY an additional 250W front wheel.
'cause you probably want torque not speed.

And still a legal 250W … for each rider …

Not legal for the roads means its not legal on the footpath too. Footpath is a road related area so not only vpukd you be booked for unreg, unlicensed etc you could be booked for riding on the footpath.

    • As already mentioned, I am not looking for advice on legalities, please read the thread thoroughly to avoid repeating already discussed topics thank you.

      • +1

Why? You apleared to not know that riding on the footpath carries the same legal responsibility as riding on the road in terms of the bike. You said you werent worried about being legal on the road be asue you are riding the footpath - but it has the same legalities.

Buy a dirodi. Run the risk.

        • You assumed I did not know, not I appeared to not know. These are two very different things, not wanting to discuss a particular topic does not imply anything, you came to those conclusions yourself.

All of that aside, its already been mentioned and even responded to, why mention it again?

          • +1

@doobey1231: I assumed based on the appearance of your post.

Why are you bothering to respond if you already knew?. Its an open forum. Maybe im replying so that others dont get caught. Plus, the other post about legalities doesnt spell out that its still illegal on footpath if you arent legal on the road.

            • @Euphemistic: Cause I made the post

Maybe im replying so that others dont get caught.

Others will see the other comment that someone else has already made though, you are just doubling up.

You should ask instead of assuming though, anyway. Makes life easier for everyone.

              • @doobey1231: I supplied some additional context, spelling out that it needs to be "road legal" on the footpath.

  • +1

Footpath or bike lane? Most areas your not allowed to ride on footpaths unless with a child under 12 (Victoria).

    • +2

OP is in sydney according to the profile. Same rules. Adults cant ride the footpath unless accompanying a minor.

But see my comments above. OP not interested.

  • -1

So why are we sharing opinions to/with the OP that are not legal? i.e. Adult riding bike on footpath and a bike that can potentially be over 500watts?
