    Why Heroquest is so Great?

  • +1

    BUY THIS…and everything else too!

I got one of mine for 40 quid in the UK sales a couple of years ago,
problem is, it's still in the UK

This game was like 15$ when I was a kid. Spent many hours playing it. So much nostolgia

    • +2

on clearance maybe! - was 19.99 in the UK back in 1990, so at roughly 2.3 AUD to the quid back then - exchange rate would have been more like $46 here in Oz, plus a little extra means more like $50-60

Checking for inflation that $46 gives you $113 in today's money….
so, this $150 is about right…………

Chat GPT claims RRP was around $70 at the time…
But i can't for the life of me find any catalogue scans from the day to confirm (world 4 kids, toyworld, toysRus, etc) -

I am fairly sure I remember the game retailing in Australia at around $60-$70. Even the two expansions I got back then were more than $15.

    • I had the base and 3 expansions and I threw them in the bin when I moved to Perth. Witch king and an ogre one, can't remember the other. I bring shame on my famiru.

Thanks @JustBro just picked it up to introduce it to my kids, alongside the expansion - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/840671

    • +1

That expansion is only an extra character (a great one), there is heaps more at retail:
      Kellar's Keep
      Return of the Witch Lord
Commander of the Guardian Knights (limited run)
The Rogue Heir of Elethorn (Rogue hero)
      The Mage of the Mirror
Rise of the Dread Moon (Comes with Knight hero)
Path of the Wandering Monk (Monk hero)
Prophecy of Telor (comes with Bard hero)
The Spirit Queen's Torment (comes with Warlock hero)
Against the Ogre Horde (comes with Druid hero)

      • Having said that, the base game is all you need to get started with plenty of quests, and the Rogue is a cool addition to the party.

Even with inflation- this seems way way over priced. We had a board as kids and it wasnt pricy (for the time).

I just bought the Rise of the Dread Moon expansion for $45.60, which looks like a great price via Amazon US with free shipping for Prime members:

Add more expansions and the 10% further discounts kicks in!

Loved this as a kid but from what I’ve read the new release is outclassed by modern crawlers (Gloomhaven, Massive Darkness 2, etc etc).

  • +2

My parents bought this for me, an only child, and refused to ever play it with me lol

    • +1

Were you a red headed stepchild?

  • +1

Went up to $151.87 (RRP: $209.99, so -28%) which is still tempting, but..

..once I buy it, it's going to add $151.87 to the pile of shame for not being played.
