    58X + oratory1990 EQ with EqualizerAPO is all I need 🤞

    • stay strong, friend

  • Bummer missed it. The coupon is still working, but base price is currently $199 - $20 coupon + $20 shipping bringing it back to $199 USD.

It looks like there's GST that will be added as well based on previous deals, but it doesn't show in the checkout for me. Anyone that bought from this deal able to confirm?

  • I just got an email from Drop saying my headphones have already been delivered, but it was only sent yesterday…

    • All good—it’s still on the way. They had given me the wrong tracking link…

Is $179 the ATL for 6xx?

    • -2

Don't know, don't care- it's a usd price and the aud equivalent fluctuates with exchange rates.

I'm pretty sure that I got it for a similar usd price several years ago. Considering the lifetime of these should be at least a decade, ten or twenty dollars here or there is nothing.

        Don't care 😂

Either way it seems like it. A$275 is a no brainer for these.

Yeah, AUD275 is peanuts for these headphones. These things have been on Drop/Massdrop for at least 7 years, which is when mine are from. Like, why would someone care if they were a dollar or ten cheaper anytime since then.

On top of that, some people clearly don't understand that there's a thing called exchange rates. 7 years ago, the AUD was a hell of a lot stronger- even if these were USD200 back then, they'd still cost the same in Australia because of the current exchange rate.

Should I have held off until today? If I had, I would have missed out 7 years of a great pair of headphones. Headphones which will last at least another decade.

          • @rumblytangara: Exactly, I paid $350 but was good to get them.
Ideally $300 would have been better. Still worth every dollar.

Some people are just about the deals on here, and undoubtedly buy a lot of stuff on impulse so they're (we're) not saving anyway.

There are a lot of computer type tech people that wouldn't appreciate audio quality for music either, and could buy a lot of cheaper stuff for gaming which would be fine.

Impulse buying legit audiophile (but open backed) headphones puzzles me slightly, but if it opens someone to a new world of what music can sound like, that's great. These things got me into exploring and then building equipment, so they were totally worth it at whatever fairly affordable price they were set to.

What amazes me is that people spend $400 on Sony or Bose ANC wireless headphones (I know, totally different use case) which sound like ass compared to the Sennheisers. And turn into landfill the day the battery fails. If I want to block out noise in the city, I can wear 10 cent earplugs.

@rumblytangara: Yeah most people just care about Bluetooth, noise cancelling and sick bass.

The 6xx are a fantastic choice and good start to a home listening or PC-as-source setup. Half the fun is doing the research about what pairs up well, and noticing the difference in improvement each component makes. Can get plenty of good entry level DAC streamer amps as well for $300 or so. Would be all most people need then all you have to do is enjoy the music.

              • @rumblytangara: Ps. I got the XM5 as well, different use as you say, hard to use the one paid for everything!

      • I mean if you really didn't care you wouldn't be on ozbargain. But fair point on the exchange rate.

I just heard these were a good pair of cans and wanted to see if they were worth it. I'm not an audiophile and Id be content owning these because they're good and I paid ATL or close to ATL

        • +1

The point was that it's a good price for them - the obsession around here with the concept of ATL is an indicator of why people are buying things, and it's not because they're a good fir for them.

          • +1

            @mickeyjuiceman: Pretty much nailed it.

Doesn't matter if it's ATL or not- the cheaper and lower impedance HD58X would be a better fit for someone who isn't an audio nut who runs high quality discrete amps.

Don't buy something just because it's the cheapest it's ever been. Buy it because it's the right product. If you're curious about good quality headphones but not some obsessive audiophile, get the 58X.

  • Anyone who ordered got theirs yet? The DHL method used is pretty slow (no surprise really - guess its cheap), 2 wks today and seems only just cleared customs.

    • +1

Whenever I've ordered anything from Massdrop, they have taken an incredibly slow route from the US to a big transport hub in Germany where they sit for a while. So yeah, I'd expect them to take a long time.

      • Ha, cheers. no EU stopover for this one, but sat in AU customs for a week. Finally transferred to local mob, so hopefully this week.
