Outdoor Wireless Security Camera Options?

Hi!

I have been putting off putting up outdoor wireless security, but a neighbors camera picked up their place getting scoped…. so now I have to.

I live in a townhouse so I don't want to do permanent installs hence the wireless aspect. So far I have researched the Reolink Argus Eco Ultra or the Eufy 3c. These are the major ones that I am aware of in Australia but if you have recommendations, I am more than happy to hear them!

What is important:

  • Home assistant integration (RTSP does the job)
  • Decent battery life
  • Person detection (not just motion)
  • Local Storage

Nicety:

  • Facial Recognition (I know eufy has bionic mind to do this). I would like notifications for unknown or specific people (dad, friends, etc).

As indicated, I use home assistant. So I am capable of setting up a frigate machine in future for a facial recognition server, but I wouldn't mind having it out of the box. I also don't have an NVR setup atm so local storage is preferable.

On these points, I know eufy has the base station NVR and the bionic mind and looks like it ticks most boxes. I have heard though that its quality is pretty minimal? I haven't heard the reolink quality.

Great battery for solar and can be charged normally through USC -C cable.

I got 2x Swann cameras for sub $300, they are great. No subscription required as well which is a big part of what sold me. You can pay for additional features but with no payment you still get cloud recording for 7 days, and they come with SD cards for local recording too.

    App is decent, can recommend.

I have a few Reolink Argus 3 Ultra cameras around my place and I can't fault them really. Have them connected up to their 6w solar panels so I never need to worry about charging them, video is clear, app is great with a heap of options/settings, can recommend.

My only gripe is no rich notifications, so you won't get a notification with a little thumbnail of what the camera detected, you just get a basic text notification saying something has been detected. Which is a pain if you quickly want to see if the camera picked up something important and not just a tree blowing in the wind or something. Eufy will give you rich notifications.
