Choosing an eScooter - Decent Brand and Safe Battery

What are some decent scooters for me to consider? Budget about $1000

Needs: 40km-50km advertised distance – I can’t charge it at the office. I’m happy if the ‘real world’ stats are about half that.

Must go up hills.

Reliable and from a good brand. Prefer a battery I can remove/replace myself but not essential.

Also want a company that uses good batteries that are less likely to combust.

Prefer not Segway. Not happy with customer support experience on my current F30

    What have your issues been?

  • online with speed limiting jumpers
once they are banned, just speed them up

A push bike has unlimited range and never requires recharging. They're faster (legally) and are good for your health as well.

    • Doesn't meet their requirements for a Scooter though.

Who knows, maybe they need to easily pack it in the back of a car for their commute, take it on a ferry, bus, train…who knows.

      • Maybe a mobility scooter would be a more suitable alternative that fits their requirements. That way they can ride it around inside the shops as well and save themselves from doing anything strenuous.

Segway is the answer, buy it from a larger retailer like ElectricKicks or Scooter World and go to them for support.

40kn range seems to mean youll be spending a couple of hours on it per day. Get a bike, you can sit down.

    • 1 hour max. No need for bike. Scooter is what I’d prefer. 40km doesn’t isn’t real world. I’d need more like 20km. But I’d rather buy bigger than I need

Just dont get lithium battery one

Victorian fire authorities say they're responding to almost one lithium-ion battery fire every day.

      Theyre all lithium batteries.

      • That is what I thought

  • Yeah it's unfortunate that you had a bad experience with Segway. I've had 4 electric scooters, 3 of them Segway and I've been very happy with the support,
but I deal directly with the store Scooterhut and they've been very helpful with any issues I've had, therefore you don't need to deal with Segway directly.
I would have recommended the Segway MAX G2, it's easy to unlock to 35kph (if that's what you desire), it has exceptional range about 35km
for a 95kg 188cm male usually carrying a 5-10kg backpack. (the advertised range is 65km "tell em they're dreaming"!) It has great suspension front and back,
it's such a nice ride. BTW I had one experience dealing with Segway directly and they were really helpful, while trying to speed unlock a previous scooter
a Segway P100 I made a terrible mistake while messing around with the software using a scooter hacking app, I thought I had "bricked" my scooter,
I contacted Segway phone support, he implied that he knew exactly what I was trying to do, and that I wasn't the first person to call with this issue
after trying to unlock the scooter, anyhow he was able to assign a new serial number to my scooter and I was up and scooting again within minutes.
The other scooter I was considering was the NIU KQi3 Max which has a range of 65km, it usually goes for $1,499 but can be found for under $1,300 when on sale,
not sure if that's too much over you limit. There's a refurbished model sold by mydeal for $999 that seems to come with a warranty.
I can't imagine MyDeal support being any better or worse than Segway. Anyhow this scooter got fantastic reviews on popular Youtube scooter channels that I watched.

    • Is NIU a trusted brand without some second rate Chinese battery?
