Just FYI, unless Miir very recently changed their manufacturing process then they contain lead just like Stanley and Yeti.

According to an article by Wired back in February, they were using lead.

Thank you! But damn, I like my MiiR water bottle because of the simplicity, internally it is a straight cylinder, same size from mouth to base, which makes it very easy to clean, and you either drink straight out of the stainless tube or you can get slim sip lid that makes it very compact.

But I’d much rather go with one of the lead free options (I know the lead is typically sealed at the bottom between the inner and outer layer, but still)

We have a lot of Thermoflasks and while the risk of actually coming into contact with the lead pellet contained within is probably very very small we'll probably end up throwing them all away. We've transitioned over to Hydro Flask for the moment. While we don't know what other nasties, if any, are used to make Hydro Flask's vacuum seal, we at least know they aren't using lead.

      • A quick look at Wired’s list suggests the Klean Kanteen Insulated TKWide is closest to the MiiR, although the “Café Cap” lid is more complicated and harder to clean. (To be fair it’s also more leak proof than the MiiR “Flip Travel Lid” but that wasn’t a big concern for me)

        • Just to be more clear, it's possible your particular bottle doesn't contain lead. Before they changed their webpage, Miir did confirm that they used lead in some of their bottles. I imagine it's only their vacuum insulated bottles. I can't imagine what else they would be using the lead for. I think the companies that still use the lead pellet/solder are using it as it's an easier and thus cheaper manufacturing process.
