What Company to Use to Get Cash for My Old Samsung S9?

Hi, I have an old Samsung S9 that is in great condition.

I have an S22, I used to use this as a backup, but now I have my husband's old phone for that. I saw that Officeworks are offering $80 for it, but in their gift cards. I searched a couple of other companies, and they were offering a bit more in cash. I am a bit wary of using them as some people say their phone is said to be no good or have issues, even when it didn't when it was sent. I just don't want to send it in and then get nothing. One of them had the offer of $120 or take $100 just in case there are issues found once they get it.

Anyone had good experiences with any of these companies?

  • Cash Converters. Check google maps for their branches. Need to bring ID (at least passport for me years ago). Just in case it's not a stolen phone. I sold Nokia phone years ago to this company. Samsung and iphone are easier to sell to many other places if compared with other brands. Cash Converters sell many different products.

    • thanks, I hadn't even though of them. Years ago they didn't give much cash for goods, so never bothered using to sell anything. There is one here (at least it was last time I looked lol)

It's a tough call, if it's me I'd sell it on eBay, but I realise that most people don't have a system set up nor want to go through the trouble. $80 is a steal for S9 (from a buyer's perspective) and if you want an easy way out then take 2nd hand store's offer and and never think about it again. Repeat, do not ever think about it again.

You're likely to fetch 2x otherwise and after fees and bother-ness it's much less. That goes back to my point on system, as a one time effort, whatever extra you get is trivial to your efforts of time/energy.

I'd take the highroad and pretty much write it off to a 2nd hand shop, I'm sure it's hard vs what you paid for it but it is what it is.

I've used MM through a JB Hifi promotion. It was a good experience.

Personally, I would just flog it on eBay.

      • Personally, I would sell it on GumTree. When you get a buyer, ensure that the transaction takes place somewhere where there are cameras (either your front yard, or a public place).

  • Private sale will always get more. If you have ebay plus there is usually a deal to sell a couple things a month with minimal fees/postage & you get the protections associated with selling through ebay. Otherwise FB marketplace.

See what companies offer, list it for a bit more depending on what other s9s have sold for ($200 on ebay for ones with undamaged screens), see if it sells, if it doesn't just go back to the best company offer.

  • I would save it for the next Samsung phone you buy.
Trading in the old S9 could get you $200-$450 discount off a new phone when it is released.

I recently got $450 off my S24 Ultra when sending in a $5 worth Samsung S7

    • I got an S22 just under 2 years ago, so I don't need another phone. Sometimes for trade ins the S9 didn't even register to get anything

      • Its the samsung bonus from website or educational store they add $200 to $450 extra

  • I am in the market for a phone. My antique S5 is not going to work soon, neither will I, so a cheap 2nd handy is best. DM sent.
