Selling a Second Hand PC

I wanted to know how to go about selling a PC on Facebook for the first time.

I know how to avoid basic scams but was curious as to how I guarantee the PC. I don't want to be in trouble for selling something that doesn't work so I assume I put a guarantee on it, but I don't want the person breaking it on purpose and returning it.

Would appreciate advice from people who have sold PC's on FB before

Thanks

Sold as-is. If worried, demonstrate working when they pickup (if comfortable doing at home), otherwise, no guarantees.

    • Will me saying no garuntees affect how quickly or how much I can sell it for though
      Thanks

        What do you think?

Lol, there are no guarantees on used items, they are as is where is. That's how it has always been.

Buyer will go home, swap all his faulty parts with your working parts, then demand a refund.

    YMMV

I've sold a few pre-builts. I've never mentioned a guarantee/warranty and would generally expect a buyer would expect "as-is." That said, if there was a reasonable fault in a reasonable time period, I would refund them.

For PCs that I've built myself, I generally part them out on eBay - less pain and typically a better price at the trade-off of more effort.

    To avoid scams/unhappy customers:

    • Ensure the PC is not misrepresented
      • I've had technically illiterate buyers who I either turn down or clearly explain the system's capabilities.
    • Be honest with the seller regarding expectations
    • Avoid anyone who seems difficult
    • You could record serial numbers

Place an old tyre in garden with a sign: First one to kick it into 2 pieces can inspect my computer!

Yeah sold as is, they'll have every opportunity to inspect it when buying it. They'll see the desktop, they'll see that a game runs fine without borking out, and they'll see the parts inside the PC (unless it's an AIO or something). Buyer beware, but that's why you are selling it so cheap compared to buying the equivalent computer brand new. Some kid will probably end up with it, or someone into gaming or in real need of a PC, so I wouldn't knowingly sell a headache to anyone. Not to mention they'll know where you live.

    • Thanks it works fine just didn't know what the expectations sellers have on facebook

      • Keep in mind too there's a good chance the person buying it does not know the value of the components. So I'd also be a nice guy and not overcharge. They'd be fuming if they found out they could get a PC that passes the same benchmarks new for the same price.

  • Do your due diligence and list all the specs and take clear non blurry non dirty OnlyFans feet no 2am dark as mf photos, FBM gets a bad rap for their buyers but just as frequently the sellers are also to blame. Don't just say SSD mention capacity, don't just say I don't know it's a quick computer, no one cares about that.

Download Speccy (free) and if you're not familiar enough with computers take a screenshot of the output insert that into the ad and it should be enough for most people. Think what you'd ask as a buyer.

Mention your suburb to avoid unnecessary questions.

Know the price of what you're selling and be firm, ignore lowballer-ing idiots don't entertain them.

Show them at point of sale (if you/they want to) to prove it works and specs are as described.

Assuming you're a genuine seller with no ulterior motives. All sales are final. I stay in a conversation for a day or two or three if hearing nothing I exit and delete conversation.

Oh, and meet at a public place if you're concerned.

    • Thankyou so much for the help, that's gonna help a tonne

      • You're very welcome.

I did forget to mention, however unlikely it is, should something not work when they get home, ask them to check all cable/card connections to make sure nothing came loose through the bumpy drive home, not happened to me personally, but it can happen. Would save everyone a lot of headache.

  • how I garuntee the pc

Brew them a fresh pot of warrant tea and have a chat about the PC.

pickup only, cash only and disable overseas postage option
