Tangerine Cannot Register My Exetel VoIP

I recently changed my connection with Tangerine from FTTN to FTTP and it has unregistered the Voip service that i have with Exetel, I have been on the phone with Tangerine and they cannot fix it so it's registered and working again. The Voip service is not for me but for someone else who using it and i have got to the point it's time to cancel the Voip because it's seems to difficult for Tangerine to get it registered again.

  • I will add the Voip was working just fine before the upgrade from FTTN to FTTP.

      Good to know

      • Tangerine doesn't know shit about Voip.

        • Do you have a Tangerine VOIP service?

          • @jv: no only Exetel Voip that i have been using with Tangerine for the last few years.

            • @gargoyle: But you’ve changed ISP. That means Exetel will delete your VOIP account unless you’ve ported the number to another service. Nothing to do with Tangerine

              • @jv: I haven't changed ISP.

                • @gargoyle:

                  I haven't changed ISP.

                  Is your NBN with Exetel?

If not, they can cancel your VOIP.

They don’t offer a standalone VOIP service.

  • Just switch to a good ISP instead.

    • I am currently on there promotional 6 month plan since changing from FTTN to FTTP with them i can't change to another ISP.
There connection speed is good it's a shame when calling them they cannot fix the Voip.

What happens if you do change? Might be worth whatever penalty to not be with them. Even so, you might be able to get out of said penalties due to their inability to provide an acceptable level of service. You could probably get out by lodging a TIO case. Obviously a hassle, but once your rid of them, stick to good providers and don’t look back. It’s not worth saving $20pm to go with the budget dorks.

Tangerine are the pits. Use a better company. They don’t deserve your (or anyone’s) business.

    • I'm pissed about Tangerine because after i upgraded from FTTN to FTTP with them i called them about the Voip being no longer registered and they said i had to call Exetel to have my Voip re-registered and when i called Exetel they said it's a matter for Tangerine re-registered and that is correct, There has been no changes in the modem settings for the Voip it really is a issue with Tangerine they cannot fix.

Tangerine are the absolute most useless and pathetic isp I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. This doesn’t surprise me at all.

no changes in the modem settings for the Voip

You've moved from fttn to fttp, why do you still have a 'modem'?

          Seems OP has no idea

          • @jv: Yeah i do but i am no expert.

        • because i need it for multiple Ethernet ports and the phone line connects to the modems "phone port 1" and not the UNI V 1port on the NBN connection box.

      • The issue is with Exetel deleting your VOIP service when you switched services

        • Correct, when Tangerine changed the FTTN to FTTP they deleted the setup details for the Voip service.

          • @gargoyle: You said your VOIP is with Exetel?

You need to have Exetel NBN to use their VOIP.

            • @jv: Yes my Voip has been with Exetel for years, but you are incorrect that i need to have Exetel NBN because my NBN has been with Tangerine for years but is only because of the change with Tangerine with FTTN to FTTP that created the Voip register issue.

              • @gargoyle:

but you are incorrect that i need to have Exetel NBN

Can you point to me on their website where they provide standalone VOIP to the public?

  • To keep the phone land line number i had to take up the Voip service now with Tangerine as they couldn't configure Exetels Voip to work, I have been told by Tangerine 1-3 weeks to port number from Exetel, all done.

    • That’s what I’ve been telling you.

Why don’t you go with a dedicated VOIP provider instead of the ISP to prevent this from happening again.

If you leave Tangerine, you will lose your VOIP again.

  • Here's another problem i recently come across with Tangerine they sent this message below and i did login to the portal but the option to "attach" the Exetel Voip invoice with the current order was not available to attach so i just attached the Voip invoice via my email and sent it..they can't even get things sorted in there own portal.

"We noted that during checkout you selected that you would like to transfer your existing phone number to use with your ordered Tangerine voice service. In order for us to smoothly and quickly transfer your phone number, we need you to supply a copy of your latest invoice for your voice service. This invoice needs to detail your account number, your voice service that you wish to transfer, and it must be dated within the last 2 months."

    • From looking at this it looks like you chose the option to port your number to Tangerine as part of the sign up process when moving from FTTN to FTTP, you should of ticked no on that option if you wanted to keep the number with Exetel.
As this has triggered a port request with Tangerine but it looks like you didn't supply them with the current billing info which is a requirement when porting in a number from an old ISP, as they need proof that you were using the number previously. This is to prevent issues with just anyone porting a valid number away from someone else and them stealing the number for spam calls etc.
So as others have suggested this is where your issue has come from and your previous provider may have deleted the number or suspended services on it.

  • I ported my VoIP numbers from Exetel to Crazytel a few years back. It did take them a bit of time but they were professional and I've never looked back.
Also once with CT you don't have to worry next time you change ISP's.

  • call exetel for advice. Worse case scenario get a third party voip service. May have lost the number though ask exetel if its possible to be kept somehow
