Qantas Points Value Help Decide Family Gift

Family member is willing to gift me 100,000 points. In return I am gifting them equivalent gift worth $620. This - on a comparative basis turns out to be 0.62 cents/point. Is this a good exchange of gifts?

Just to clarify I clearly declared cash value for points is worst outcome to use points. They are always better off for J flights. Family member doesn’t care as they have no interest in flying, it’s a gift after all.. that I want to return the favour immediately (thus the $620 offer). Family is the “in laws” in this case.

You offered $620 for 100K points or they offered 100K points and you said I'll spot you $620? A good yield from a member's perspective is $20 per 1,000 points.

    • You selling any points at this 0.5c valuation of yours? Coz they are regularly going for 1.4cpp on here these days (used to be closer to 1.2) but hey I am happy to go with your valuation if I'm buying

I think they are are saying 2c per point ?

One of us has a faulty calculator

You are getting the better deal here. 0.62c is basically points + pay value. With the new classic rewards plus tier you can basically get 1.5c of value per point for premium seats wherever there's seat availability in discount buckets up to 4 or higher CPP for the old (but limited) classic rewards. Does your family member want to buy anything else with points lol? I'd be opening up a point store for them

Qff points value is 1.4c per point. At worst 1c per point.

You are getting a great deal but may be taking advantage of the other person.

True true, family member is a bit vague. If it was someone I liked I'd do it for 62,000. If it was my brother in law, I'd add a 20,000 point shipping and handling fee

Like you were not aware of pointsvalue🤔

Sounds like OP is playing dumb and not giving fair value to his own family. lol

Nope, please see op. I have informed the family member this is worst possible use of points. And it’s a gift.

        • If you deal with Qantas, then yes. But you are not Qantas!

And even worse because you're not just anyone - you're f-a-m-i-l-y-….

      That was 2019 sir.

      • True… Obviously the value has fallen to 0.62cpp, look forward to your next classified post at that price 👍
