Nespresso pods. What do we all use on our machines?

Morning team bargain extreme.

I am just about out of my nespresso pods for my coffee machine and was wondering where you all went to get your replacements. I'm after a cheap alternative to nespresso. Something under $0.60 per capsule. The ones you can buy in big w are fine. But just curious as to what the ozbargain community are using

Cheers

Happy brewing

i use nespresso pods. why? because the average 16% premium you pay makes the coffee taste 200% better

  • I got the free sample pack of Piazza D'oro and don't taste as good as the Nespresso ones…

    • Same here, just got my samples a few days ago and tried one in the office machine. Nowhere near as good. I had to have another coffee using the real Nespresso capsule to get rid of the aftertaste. So I'm really edgy this morning. :)

  • Have you tried the Aldi pods? I hear they are pretty good, but no personal experience.

    • Aldi pods wont work on Nespresso and vice versa.

  • Office works sell nespresso compatible, i've not tried them myself but the average around 55-60c a pod. You can buy reuseable, refillable nespresso compatible pods on ebay and fill them with whatever you like.

  • I bought http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-10-Refillable-Coffee-Capsules…

Then just went to my favourite coffee shop and got bag of fresh ground beans. Compared to Nespresso probably have to use 2-3 capsules for same/stronger strength though. But hey $25 for 10 capsules you can reuse 10 each and bag of 250g good quality coffee for $11, a lot cheaper than Nespresso pod.

  • Bay Beans Super Crema Coffee beans = $28.70 per 500g - delivered at the moment
At 5 grams per pod ~ $0.29 per coffee

Disposable capsulin pods = $26.20 for 100 capsules eBay =~ $0.26 per pod empty

    $0.29 + $0.26

~55 cents per pod BUT it is Super Crema.

I have also used the 30-50x reusable pods. You can get a 10 pack for $30 or cheaper
Maths for these if used 30 times each.
10 capsules = 300 uses equate to about 10 cents per pod

    10 cents per use of pod + $0.29 for coffee = $0.39

I like making my own. If I have 3 coffees a day so about 1100 per year and saving of about 15 cents per coffee will net me about 200 dollars a year. Not much but something. You can always use cheaper coffee or buy in bulk with a friend and you could save more.

Obviously if you have 2-3 people drinking 3 or more per day then it is worth it. Even if you drink these half the time for some variety.

  • Update - capsul-in capsules you can get for under 14 cents each if you buy about 1000. Just check eBay.
I would recommend storing them in an airtight container e.g a tightvac container as they do have holes in the bottom and you would want to avoid air contact for as long as possible.
Remember that 1kg will do about 200 capsules.
    Hence 14 cents per capsule x 200 = $28
and add a GREAT coffee at $26 per kg

    $28 + $26 = $54 for 200 coffees = 27 cents a coffee

Capsules cost about 67 cents each, thus a saving of 40 cents per cup.

    3 cups per day = $1.20 x 365 days a year = $438 per year.

Some people like making their own, others have a low care factor.

    Any other tips welcomed.

  • I am currently using 6.2grams at the moment and it is working very well.
