    Yeah you can probably get a knock off

    I bought a knockoff from AliExpress, the hook end was hard plastic (instead of rubber) so doesn't grip to the end of the table.

      I have a medium one and it does grip to stuff quite well but it's a bit big so my bag dangles a bit too low sometimes. I think this size will be more useful. It's a lot cheaper too so I just had to buy the small to give them a go.

      I got mine from AliEx last year, for good price (AU$5.5+ )
      and I thought mine was all metal, until you mentioned "hard plastic"
      (so, I took a magnet to mine just now, and yes…
      …it looks like mine is also plastic, but I really can't tell)

        Well, the body should be aluminium so it shouldn't be magnetic anyway. The end part, yeah, the real deal has rubber which does help the grip a lot.

        I got a couple from AE ($10~) and it's pretty much the same. I wouldn't spend another $40 for the original if I'm being honest. Does the job, got me through a few weeks of Europe just fine.

    I have the micro, small, and medium. I use the medium size the most - small makes it hang from tables or surfaces.

      alvian came to the rescue. I'm hoping this size is a bit more useful for me. I think if you do a bit more outdoorsy stuff then the medium would be better but I think this size might be better for my current circumstances. Don't think it hurts to have more of these in any case.

          Yeah, I just watched a youtube video when comparing the small and the mini. He was saying the small was good to have for things like hanging your bag on the door of your toilet stall if the hook is broken. I just want to be able to hang my bag on stuff when the ground/floor is manky. I'm not really particular about keeping my bag off the ground.

      Yeah it's been a struggle. I got mine for $35 but I bought one to get me over the free delivery threshold when buying something else. That's how I justified the purchase at the time.

      What you want is a DMM MegaVault, though it's safe working limit is 30KG. Sounds like safety isn't a concern though, so go for it! A quickdraw might be more your thing though. Not as compact, but capable of carrying 2 tonnes.

      I thought this might be something along the same lines, so was going to get one as an alternative but it looks a bit toy like.

    I highly rate this. Used this all over Europe to clip my bag onto railings, train handles, tables for the added security.

    Hook feature also good for public toilets.

    Looks cool, but also over engineering. One side is open, so it is not any more secure than a S hook.

    They seem extremely expensive. What are the use cases where the vastly cheaper stainless steel ones from Bunnings wouldnt work?

      You do have a point, but I'm guessing you're just talking about the carabiner part and not the hook part (it's the combination of the two that makes this product appealing).

      I guess you could create your own with a carabiner, hook, and maybe paracord to tie the two together (to secure the loose hook to the carabiner when not in use). Total cost probably works out to be ~$10-15 (depending if you 'splurge' on the more expensive options at Bunnings). You could wrap a rubber band around each tip of the hook to give it more grip on a table surface.

    ok so that hook part swings out and you can hook it on something. that part looks a bit flimsy to me and looks like it could easily unhook itself.

    claims to hold 3000kg and lower price per clip. (climbers would probably never buy these off amazon but for hooking your bag they should be really strong, and they might come in handy when camping for other heavier uses)

      ok I found one at home just like the one I linked but smaller. the moving part with screw to lock only goes inwards so if the branch is too thick it won’t close.

      but even if it doesn’t close the shape of the aluminium of the carabiner is actually hook shaped so less likely to unhook than the half circle shape of the product in this deal.

      size of the one I linked is 4.5inch so I think it should be able to fit a ~1 inch branch through the gap.

      I don't know if you're really being serious, but the purpose of these two products is completely different. This product is not in anyway applicable to climbing, it is for hooking bags or similar items to each other to make them easier to carry around. The point of having one closed loop and one open ended hook is that it is convenient to attach and remove the two items from each other. If you're interested, you can see like 5-10 comments in this thread of people describing how they used this product.

        but there are also comments either poking fun or that can't think of a convenient use, at least I provided a cheaper (per carabiner) alternative where you get more for aluminum and strength for what you pay and not just poking fun.

        here is a comment that hints at something similar to what I wrote "One side is open, so it is not any more secure than a S hook." you can see that its a half circle shape and doesn't look very secure because it doesn't look like a hook. you can imagine someone bumping into a bag hanging on it making it swing and then it falls off the branch etc. if anything I think they should have made the end of the red part quite a bit longer so it actually "hooks".

        and what happens when you exceed the 22kg rating? maybe someone thinks it looks good enough and uses it for a couple bags over 22kg combined. I am pretty sure it will bend and come apart while the 3000kg rated one should hold 100kg easily.

        also is the middle twisting part even aluminum? looks like plastic from the photos.

        if you are just using it to hang your backpack on a hook on the wall sure it's probably fine. still seems expensive for what it is though.

        ok since whoever was upset with my comment couldn't give any negative points about the one I linked here are some.

        x it's 100g of aluminum so if you throw it in your bag in the same compartment as your phone it could crack the screen protector just by smashing together inside the bag.

        x obviously being strong and putting heaps of weight on the caribiner doesn't matter if what you are hooking it too can't hold all the weight. so a branch might snap with 50kg+ of stuff on the caribiner lowering your maximum weight limit anyway. I was thinking more out of multiple potential other uses it would be reliable to hold a tarp roof in the rain during camping because the rain water can get heavy. I would feel better knowing a couple of stronger caribiner is holding everything up.

        x this is kind of a neutral point but yes you have to squeeze it open everytime you want to hook it. but how different is that to swinging out the red arm? I dunno obviously the marketing makes it look convenient but effort and time spent isn't it similar?

        tbh not trying to argue whether this product is useful or not to you. just giving what I think is a better value alternative (and with more potential use) for those that think "what?" the product looks flimsy and expensive.

        but honestly this photo is what made me "what?" about the product in this deal.
        doesn't that look flimsy and unsecure?

    I’ve travelled a lot and never had a situation where I needed a clip. I don’t see myself needing to hang my bag on the train using this. There’s usually overhead compartment to put it in, or leave it on an empty seat next to me. Sometimes there’s already hooks where I can just hang my bag/jacket…
