2TB WD My Passport Studio - eBay - $158 inc Delivery. Hurry 3 Left

Just found this deal that seems pretty good, this is for a 2TB Portable Hard Drive quite similar to the one The Good Guys are selling for $187 (possibly less for cash).

Before you buy, one feedback is negative on this item.

But there are many positives that don't complain item is not as described. So I guess it's worth the risk.

I thought I also read somewhere that the hard drive inside can be used outside of it's inclosure as the USB attachment isn't soldered onto the hard drive and that the hdd inside is a proper SATA. But I think I could have seen that on the net with an older model.

  • But the photo shows a box of the 1TB drive, so perhaps that was why the item was "not as described"?

Good Guys are actually selling at $178,- right now….

  • The photo looks like a stock photo the ebayer found on the net. So it could be why it says 2TB, it could also mean something else is slightly out. Maybe it's not a studio and just a my passport since I thought studio had firewire ports but once again that could be an older model.

And while there is one negative there is about 12 positives for the same listing. A couple of weeks ago I ordered one for $178 including shipping. Now I regret getting it instead of waiting to get one from Good Guys, lol. Could have better warranty that way.

  • I've had a terrible time from this brand. Over about 2 years I have had 3 of them that all failed. I now have Seagate which seems better. I wouldnt touch WD with a barge pole now.

    • +1

seems weird, more recently I heard that people are preferring WD now for their reliability. Though I still much prefer Seagate because all those hard drives to my knowledge can be used outside their enclosure which is always handy :). Whereas I think most WD cannot.

    • I have no bad experiences with either brands. I have a 3 year old Seagate FreeAgent Go which works fine and a WD VelociRaptor 300GB which works fine too. I just got a bit tired of using 2 separate drives so I bought 1 large drive and will either sell the old smaller drives or just leave them to store smaller files like photos and music.

The main reason why I went with the WD 2TB is because the recent Seagate models are getting some awful bad reviews.
It seems they went from fantastic quality drives 3 years ago, to currently being cheap and nasty drives.
However, WD seems to have maintained their manufacturing of high quality drives over the last 3 years.
