Great winery, I’ve bought from them a few times

Don't wanna be the miserable one, but when it's a post a week, sometimes more, is it really a bargain, or just a regular price and nice advertising. You're not going to be selling much of this at full price in today's market.

      @CantonasKungFuKick
It's a comment we get occasionally and so the full background to what the WIne Shed Sale is is here -> https://bechardy.com.au/blogs/blog-news/what-is-the-wine-she…

Your point about full price is correct for many. We've all seen, and we'll continue to see, the inflated RRP (as opposed to a genuine RRP) discounted back model. Despite the resumption of wine exports to China the Australian market (indeed the global market) is in oversupply and global consumption is falling, so you'll still see some businesses discounting heavily. Some won't suvive, just in SA to my knowledge, Salena Estate, Anderson Hill, Artwine are all up for sale - as are more vineyards in McLaren Vale then I've seen in my thirteen years in the industry.

That said, there are still some brands that are growing and making full margin. We're tripling our inventory this year and have increased our crush by 40% to meet demand and whilst we've resumed wine exports to China (I've been over there five times in the last twelve months and will be back again in a few weeks) we've not factored that yet into those decisions which were made prior to the news on Easter Thursday - I'd wager no other wine company in Australia is in that position.

Counterintuitively our wine club is growing faster than it ever has driven by increased cellar door visitation driven by the fact that (according to the Australian Good Food Guide) we own the joint 7th best restaurant in the State.

We’re going well but there’s more to do :-)

      Cheers! RD :-)

Swing and a miss. OP is wondering why it's the same deal posted on repeat, and if the original RRP is left with any meaning… Good news about your business in China I suppose.

        • +1

          Clearly not the same deal.
A variety of posts across different regions, price points. Some gain traction, some don’t.
Of course RRPs have meaning - some more than others granted. I’d strongly suggest there are some businesses out there claiming ridiculous RRPs but that we’re not one of them. Indeed we reduced some prices when we acquired the business from the 5th generation to what we believe are more realistic. :-)

@RD ADL: I can go trawling if you need. I've bought this exact deal a few times. Nice wine, no problem there. Just wondering about the usage of the site to post regular "deals" as though it's a structured or planned form of advertising. I don't have the statistics, but I'd argue that you aren't retaining many customers from this channel buying the same wine at "RRP"

            • +2

@tromboc: I went back through to October 2023 and could not see this deal posted previously.

Deals v advertising is somewhat A subjective topic, but clearly our deals follow exactly the same format as other companies that post on here.

I do have the stats and our database continues to grow at 10% per annum. And Shopify tells me that those customers who purchased from us more than once continues to grow as a percentage of our entire database
              Cheers RD :-)

Genuinely $15-20 bottles of wine for $8 delivered is my experience of Bec Hardy wines. Would stock up again if I didn't already have some!
