CheapOair.com booking air tickets for Malaysia Airlines

I need to get from Bali to Phuket and there are no direct flights that I can find. There is either Singapore (fun) or KL (shithole) to transit through. I even tried to go through some of the smaller and probably crappier airports like SUB and CGK. I was resigned to leaving Bali on a 6am Airasia flight to Singapore and then a tiger flight that evening. The tiger flight didn't make me happy. I was happy to spend a day in Singapore, but wondered how my daughter would hold up after getting up around 3am. It was either that or a few hours at LCCT. I've been back and forth for a couple of days and decided to try skyscanner again. I clicked direct flights only and it came up with ones that all had stops but that were shorter layovers but also more expensive. One was for Malaysia airlines.

I hunted around for a malaysia air voucher code and couldn't find one. I signed up for their FF program as they are not partnered with qantas or Virgin. When I was on their website, I saw that the flights were about $100 more than the one skyscanner was showing. I went back to skyscanner, thinking it was a mistake, but got put through to cheapoair.com. On their website, they applied some instant vouchers automatically.

I paid $366 US for two 1 way tix. That's about $350AUD and no apparent AMEX fees. I get food, checked luggage allowance and get to select our seats. I really hope I get alcohol either free or to buy.

So, I guess the moral is to hunt a bit further down in the skyscanner results and try their click through bookings to see what you can get.

  • Great… thanks for this. Will keep this in mind.

And good job to you too, because Malaysia Airlines doesn't stop at the LCCT like AirAsia does.., so transiting through KL would have been a much nicer experience.
