Can Anyone Please Recommended a Good Car Hire Site?

Hi all,

I am a total novice when it comes to car hire, I did it once for an Alberta Canada trip last year by going search for car hire companies in Calgary and going direct with them.

I was told that was not a good way to save money, and I should surrender my ozbargain card.

Well I this time I tried expedia and I really found it confusing as, for example, expedia took me to klook which then tried to get me to book via companies I haven't heard of. This is for New Zealand.

It got to the point where I was not even confident the deal was legit.

Where do you guys go for your car hire deals?

Help appreciated.

Economy Car Rentals is usually pretty good for most locations I have tried, and IMO their site is fairly straight-forward with what you are/aren't getting included.

For NZ I ended up hiring a Camry for the south island for pretty cheap - Avis - NZ$1257.84 for 10 days

Used Ezi for north island for a last minute booking

    Both booked direct

      We used Omega in NZ

    • +1 for Avis

We hired an SUV from Avis on our last trip to Auckland last December and paid $440 NZD for 5 days inc all optional covers using promo code found on google.

    Melbourne airport.

  • Holiday Autos (owned by Cartrawler in Ireland) used to have the global market pretty much to themselves until Rentalcars.com emerged in 2010… but be very wary of Booking.com's attitude to customer service.

  • Rentalcars.com.au and I usually check the offers after booking flights.

I always suggest going via the company direct. So many times I or friends have had issues to save $150 by booking on a 3rd party site and had issues at the rental place. Either the car type was unavailable and they offer a less suitable car. Maybe I have been unlucky but this is simply my experience and to me the savings aren’t enough to warrant the stress of booking issues.

  • Priceline.com can be good at times.

  • ladybug.com

it's a consolidating site for flight , car rental , and hotels booking sites.

tap in the dates/details and hit go, and then it provides links to some of the other booking sites with that data already entered.

    worth a look.

    sometimes reveals great deals.

it's my first stop for car rental.

  • I start with skyscanner. Shows me which companies operste in the region im looking to hire. Then compare prices with the companies directly.

Have an upcoming trip to Korea. Booking direct with Lotte Rent-a-car saved me around 20% compared to comparison sites. Think they had a sale happening at the time.

  • I used https://www.arentals.nz/ for Queenstown to rent a people mover and Rav4 (I found them on the usual booking websites and ended up booking directly). No issues - pick up in Queenstown airport (I think they do the same for other cities) and shuttle bus on the return.

Edit - you may see them as 'YESAWAY' on car search websites - think Yesway is some aggregator/platform - A Rentals is the underlying company in NZ.
