Can I Move out Optus nbn with Its Modem?

Optus is increasing if 50/20 nbn plan to $89/month which is quite expensive.

I want to move out to cheaper providers but currently I am using Optus Ultra Gen 2 modem. My ask is would the modem compatible with other providers or I need to get a new modem?

  • If I recall, I don't think they are locked but they are also not configurable.

  • Modem or router? What sort of nbn do you have?

    • Its modem from Optus, the big black tower loke thing with 4g backup. I have HFC type connection with NBN.

HFC don’t use modem, only router. The NBN box is the modem

To be annoying about it, if it has 4g backup it is a modem router :)

The modem works on Aussie Broadband. I know this because I switched to them from Optus at one stage.

  • I think just the 4G backup is locked so you'll need to use an Optus SIM if you rate this feature.

  • I had a quick google and it should work as long as the new provider does not use PPPoE

Contact Optus and tell them you are unhappy with their price increase.
They MAY offer you a better deal. I went from the proposed $89 to $74 for 12 months.
BUT be polite and not confrontational when you call them.

  • I got the same price rise email.

Remember the days when the price of things went down?
