Apparently You Can Have Negative Flybuys Points

Checked my flybuys account two weeks ago and I have -966 Flybuys points. Has anyone experienced this?

I don't normally buy a lot at Coles, maybe less than $30/week, so less than 30 points/week. It seems like it will take a while for me to work up to 0 points and start earning points again. I am tempted to just sign up for a new account instead.

Thoughts?

When you return products, they take back the points.

I didn't return anything though. Not even sure how it happened.

        Check your transaction history

Someone may have fraudulently used you points to buy stuff?

        • Nope, I checked my transaction activity, there is no funny stuff going on. I did convert points to dollars, but I am sure I wouldn't have been allowed to convert more points than I have to dollars.

My account seem to mysteriously gained 966 points two weeks ago 😲

Coles self checkout used to show you a prompt if you wanted to take $10 off with your flybuys dollars. But if you redeem the points in the app for flybuys dollars just before finalising checkout, it used to still ask you and allow you to go up to 2000 negative points essentially, so you could basically double dip up to $10, obviously you have to earn back the negative points.

Maybe that was the case if they haven't patched that yet?

Hmm, I think you might be right. Looks like it has not been patched yet.

      • So, you converted an amount of points to dollars so there remained 1,034 points on your account. Then you quickly used the Coles self checkout where it asked you if you wanted to redeem 2,000 points for $10 off your shop, and you accepted?

        • Yes. I think what happened was I checked the Flybuys app to see if I have any money on my Flybuys card while shopping at Coles. I had none, but had heaps of points, so i converted them to Flybuys dollars and then went to the checkout. At the checkout, the convert 2000 points for $10 prompt came up and I said yes. I think that must be what triggered the negative points.

      • Yep it seems this is the issue. I've seen other people on FB post about this and it's because the Flybuys systems are so laggy, they will happily send you into negative!

    • Domt you have to time this? Otherwise its such a 'coincidence'

      • I've definitely seen the popup come up asking to redeem 2000 points like 2 minutes after redeeming within the app. I redeem the points hours in advance now, so haven't seen if it still happens recently.

      • Yes, I can see how this might look suspicious, but honestly, i thought the negative points were a Flybuys glitch and would correct itself if i left it alone, like any mild rash. :) It didn't occur to me that I might have over redeemed my points.

    • Yes that happened to me a week or so ago, I contacted help desk and they offered to refund $10 fb dollars and reinstate the points but it never happened. I ended up just earning more points to return it to a positive balance.

Great idea. Just chuck the card and get a new one once you go into negative.

  • yeh mine went into negative as well. taking me ages to earn it back

  • Thats why we shop at aldi. No over inflated prices, due to rewards scheme funded by suppliers, that will do anything to supply colesworth.

    • Aldi are harder on suppliers than Colesworth. Coles are the most supportive and have the best profit margins versus Woolies and Aldi for us.

      • Not what i heard from one supplier. ;)

        • They have more than 2 suppliers. For our brand we supply direct most of the time.
