AFL Matches and Draws Is It Time to Change [POLL]

NRL have an extra time set up in which it comes down to the golden point

The AFL is a high scoring game which a draw [somewhat] rare but I'm not a fan of them - I don't hate them but I'd prefer the NRL set up with a golden point situation or an extra 2mins played each way.

Do you think it is time to scrap the draw in AFL

Note; I usually hate any changes to the rules but this is one that I would rather see happen, it isn't football [soccer] in which it is a low scoring game and draws result in points are dropped so encourage teams to win.

What happens if this poll results in a draw?¿

Nah, they should change the game to make even more draws. Like if both teams are within 10 points of each other, then that's a draw.

What? Like cricket? Where you can bat and get 1,000+ runs, hand over, and if the opposing team, with only 30 runs, can just stick it out till the final siren, it's a draw? Dumbest. Shit. Ever.

        …and…. It only takes 5 days 🙀

      • What? Like cricket?

        I don't like cricket

      • That's one format of the game and managing that issue is a key strategic part of the format that many enjoy.

I'm still amazed that kill the dill with the pill is a game people follow in mass.

    • League? Union? NFL?

All of the above have structure to them.

        • +1

          Structure? Thats funny.

        • +1

Designed so the audience can keep up with the action.

I used to be an NRL fan (and player) but that game lost me many years ago due to the culture and rule changes that made it a bit of a grind.
I switched to Union and they changed the rules and ruined that.

I started watching AFL in 2017 and think it's a great game. I love going to the ground and seeing it live. The culture on the surface is better but I get the feeling that the AFL are better at hiding their skeletons.

Whats wrong with a draw? I dont see any problem with a draw, except for finals.

  • +1

Only in finals where an actual result is needed.

I'd like to see AFL should bring in sin bins for anything that's reportable.
Nothing was stopping Ablett in his last grand final from just KOing a few opposition and running away with it.

    • Red card needed, usable by all the umpires. That would stop that nonsense pretty quickly.

I still don't understand why an assualt that occurs on the ground is treated differently from one in the stands. Plenty of evidence and witnesses for charges. Police are usually present in numbers at grounds.

  • Should be a push up competition to settle which team wins

Golden point is stupid and more often than not, it just comes down to whoever gets the ball after the "golden point" kick off. It isnt down to skill and is more down to luck.

I think of both teams are equally good, then this should be reflected in the score.

Or, they have a soccer style kick off where everyone has to take a kick at goal from 50m out.

Yep, watching an entire match and then the winner decided by effectively a one play field goal seems worse than ending in a drawer.
Golden point via try scoring only would be an improvement:)

    • Especially stupid if one team has a massive wind advantage. They're also complaining about game length and injuries; I'm sure extra time would really help that.

Perhaps if you can't beat the other team in 120mins you should just give up and go home and accept the draw, and fans happy they saw a closely fought out match

Also bring back the GF replay.

Exactly the song I was about to link. Dunno why Andrew Dillion won't make it the mandatory song. At least creates an atmosphere rather than a stadium of awkward silence.

  • If it's a draw they should have a full rematch to get a definitive result.

  • Why does a team need to win? The game is setup to handle a draw.

  • I'm impartial to the draw, just a quirk of the game I guess. But I am ready for the to scrap the bounce! It's only a matter of time till they do.

  • Three premiership points awarded to both sides.

  • Who cares about the NRL they can do what they like.

Im getting a bit tired of the AFL mucking around with the game actually ive been a bit tired of the AFLs changes for a long time now.
