Velocity Points Rewards Seats - Sitting Together?

I have booked 3x Rewards Seats to Europe on the same flight via Qatar Airways.

There was no option to select seats for any of the 3x Rewards Seats, so I'm assuming this will be provided at check-in, if we check-in as a group what are the odds we'll be seated together or are Rewards Seats scattered all throughout the flight and we'll be seated separately?

All flying Economy.

If you booked the 3 seats under 1 booking, then you'll be grouped together.

If you booked 3 separate bookings, then it will be best effort at checkin if there is a block of 3 together.

Log into your booking and see if you can select the seats that way. Don't forget to try again closer to the date of flight as well.

Try managing the booking on the Qatar Airways website using the Booking Reference Number they sent in the confirmation email. Note, it'll be different to the Virgin one. It'll be in the PDF ticket.

  • Thanks all - Upon looking at the Seat arrangement through Qatar's manage booking, Assigned seats are a dark blue colour.

Despite this looking at the entire plane's seating arrangements, not a single seat is the dark blue Assigned - It is like the Rewards seats are ghost seats that presumably are allocated at airport check-in? It is bizarre I have a ticket but can't see my seat even through the partner airline (Qatar)

You didn't mention it, but I assume you tried to actually assign seats for yourself in the Qatar manage-booking interface?

    • I'll ask again….

If you booked the 3 seats under 1 booking, then you'll be grouped together.

As that is all that really matters here.

      • Two of us booked together, upon checking and seeing Rewards seat availability was still there we booked the 3rd traveler.

All under the same VFF account however.

So two bookings, I can confirm at a minimum 2 of you will be sitting together.

You're going to have to request the 3rd person be moved next to you, this may or may not happen depending on what seats are free.

But that's not quite true, @JimmyF. If the booking does not have assigned seats prior to the opening of online check-in and the flight has a lot of pax who have done self-assigned seating before check-in opens, then it can indeed be the case that the group won't be seated together. Of course, the system does try to keep groups together. If people want to sit together it is always better to self-assign seats well in advance, though sometimes there is a cost involved depending on airline and fare (unusual for most reward seats).

Have you ever had it happen? As I've never had it happen in all my flying on 'full fare' airlines.

Generally paxs are assigned a 'soft' seat allocation in the back end.

Only the scummy budget airlines randomly assign you sitting apart on purpose so you pay extra to sit together.

  • I recently booked to Japan using my Velocity, and on the email I got confirming, it has them together

  • You're probably going to be stuck 24/7 with the other 2 travelers at your destination so sit anywhere and enjoy the break from each other. You can always chat via the inflight entertainment system or meet up at the bathrooms.

    • meet up at the bathrooms.

Have fun when the turbulence kicks in!

      • 1 mile + 2 metres high club

  • You can ask VFF to link your 2 bookings - so they will be treated as if they're made under the same coming
