I'm going to buy a convertible laptop probably this year?

Any recommendation?

Anyone use Lenovo yoga/ dell xps 12 / Sony slider / asus tai hi?

Thanks

  • I suppose depends what you have in mind for its use. I need digitizer for sure (otherwise it seems kind of pointless).

Have you considered the surface pro or asus transformer book? I don't know when it comes it and it will most likely be expensive, but the asus transformer book gets it for me. Keyboard dock has battery and hdd built in, but I've read it doesn't have a digitizer…..(seems like such a waste).

I would go a dockable tablet over the rest as it seems to be the most flexible in terms of choice. For example, the lenovo, dell and sony's keyboards can't be removed which may limit its use as tablets (as in ipad tablet not work tablet).

So I'd go surface pro or transformer book depending on price and if asus has digitizer. But they may not be available this year. From your choices, I'd go lenovo as the the keyboard/screen implementations on the other choices seem gimmicky.

  • for my liking it would have to be the Asus Taichi at the high end but i'd be wary of long term ownership outside of warranty given you do have two screens

or the lenovo twist or yoga at the lower end

its all quite kludgey though isnt it?

lenovo even have a version that escapes me where the unit folds back but the keyboard faces your arm so you need a cover to mask it

these are all half arsed solutions even the taichi… we give you TWO screens for the price of one

  • thanks for the deep opinion guys.

Im thinking about convertible laptop because I would like to give my laptop to my brother

By having surface / asus transformer, it means that I would still need laptop or desktop as my primary machine :).

    • huh? Why can't the surface pro and transformer book be your main laptop? They run full windows 8 with intel proc etc…They might be ulv's but that will suit most of the population? When docked, theyre pretty much a ultrabook.

  • for me i'm quite fond of the Lenovo twist… its a tried and true formula and lenovo have been doing twist pivot laptops for 5yrs +

however i always think of long term ownership and very few of these solutions fills me with confidence after even a short term of say 2yrs…
